I know I posted this before as a completed top but now I have machine quilted it. What an experience, so much to learn. However, it was a very manageable size, 30in x 43in. I used low loft polyester batting and it was a breeze to quilt. I made up the patten myself from scraps and recycled fabrics, and hand embroidered Riley's name. I am very pleased with the way it turned out and I shall be giving it to him tomorrow.
Oh and by the way total cost for this quilt, under $15NZ.

Ps just goes to show that quilts do not have to cost a lot of money and perhaps my efforts will give encouragement to those just starting out, just as I am.

Gal - fantastic job. Well done. ... and for under $15?!?!! That's impressive.

I am sure your nephew will love it.

Hi KiwiQuilter, nice to talk to another Kiwi!! Yes I am a great 'OP' shopper and recycle fabrics, I source my fabrics from all over the place! The flannel was scraps from the Salvos store and the check was a womans cotton shirt, pale blue was a ploy/cotton sheet or should say part of one, the navy was from 2.5m poly cotton from the OP shop (bargin at 2$) as was the red ploy/cotton binding, yellow is cotton drill, a mish-mash of fabrics I know but I washed them all very well prior to making. I am learning to machine quilt so this was a learning project really but I am happy with most of it.

That's a great quilt, I'm sure he will love it. You must be something of a bargain hunter to get those delish fabrics and all the wadding for 15NZD- I just converted that into pounds and boy am I impressed!

Thanks all, for your encouraging comments, the batting was $16.00m NZ of which I used .80m, that was the dearest part.
The pics make the fabric look quite good but some fabrics are a little worn, Riley is only 2yrs old so he won't be worrying about that! I was lucky with the flannel car fabric as his Dad and Granddad are both mechanics therefor as you can imagine this kid is car crazy!!! I should post a pic of my recent op shop finds, that is where I get most of my fabrics!
