Excellent work  I can't wait to see the finished quilt

The only reason its handsewn is because my machine is broken right now and I can't afford a new one until I sell my serger :( Otherwise I would be machine stitching them LOL
Thank you all for your kind comments. |
Nice work. You're very brave to tackle a New York Beauty. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Very nice. Have not tried that one yet!

Not perfect but dang girl I can't sew one of these with or without the machine. I have tons of Carol Doak patterns but haven't had the guts to try one yet. I think with every one you do, you will get better. Keep up the good work.

have you got any more of these beauties done? :D:D:D

Not yet...
Somehow I pinched a nerve in my back on the way home from work last night...so I could barely move by the time I got home...so no quilting for me last night :( |

I took a NYB class not too long ago taught by Judy Holley. Made two blocks in class, four more when I got home and they are now in my stack of "I'll do this later" projects. They were fun to make but I need 80 blocks to make the quilt. Haven't had much time lately to sew... :(
I would agree that accuracy is the key to making the NYB block so the points are all nice and sharp, and I would wait until my machine was fixed to make them. The "crown" part is paper pieced. Here's a photo of the first block I made using assorted fabrics from my stash. New York Beauty Block |
Beautiful. It sure does take a "bunch" of different fabrics to make these puppies......I am doing one with a friend......Karen Stone's original pattern. My friend and I each make two of the same block each month, keep one and send one to each other. Out of the 30 different blocks, we are each making 15....but two of 15. It's fun and does cut down a bit on the amount of fabrics needed. A good way for us to keep connected too. She now lives in another state.....
