I really wanted to try this technique but didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. So this is my $20 twin sized quilt top (I spread it on our queen bed) I learned a whole lot and will definitely make another one (fabric is already purchased) The people at my local fabric shop were very interested as I ran around with my angle mirrors.
Everywhere I look, I can see hexagon possibilities. I think I'm obsessed! The origional fabric--a kids' print The quilt top--twin sized One of the hexagons |

The close-up of the six hippo heads is hilarious. :D I like it how you see the black zebra noses sprinkled all over the quilt.
Beautiful, love the results.

This is so cute!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-34937-1.htm, choosing the fabric http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35100-1.htm, more discussion on fabric choises http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35685-1.htm, cutting the hexagons http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-36316-1.htm, assembling the blocks http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-36954-1.htm, layout I did a search for one block wonder and came up with this: http://www.quiltingboard.com/search....+wonder&u=&s=0 And this is a search of OBW: http://www.quiltingboard.com/search.jsp?q=OBW&u= Stack N Whack is another name for it. Here's a recent thread where it seems several people are using the same fabric (including me!) to make theirs: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-153265-1.htm |
I'm liking these OBW. At first I was like "they're ok". Now I can't wait to see. I really like the before and after. I love your colors. Nice.
That is so cute!
I still have my 10 (TEN!!!) yards I bought to do the one that several people did from the same fabric. I don't have any idea where it is right now, so will have to wait until I find it while organizing.
I haven't been brave enough to try one, yet. Beautiful work!
I just love it, good job.
This is great!!!!
It is totally addictive. And much easier than it looks. The tutorials on this board were great. The hardest thing is matching up the six layers of fabric. After that, it's like a treasure chest--you never know what secret your next block will reveal.
The fabric for my next one is a large floral. Can't wait to get at that one but have 3 baby quilts to finish first--including one for my next grandbaby--DD is due at the end of the month. Guess I should get back to the sewing room! |
I would never have thought of doing it with a kid's print! It really adds something.
Wow what a transformation...great job!
Look at all those pink heads! Very cute
I haven't worked up the courage to try a OBW yet but I do like them. Your is very cute.
