I just finished my first quilt. It's a rag quilt made out of dinosaur fabric for my nephew. (The colors are truest in the 3rd and 4th photos.) It has some mistakes--the most distressing for me is when I accidentally clipped a block 5 times in a row while ragging it. I carefully appliqued a patch matching the fabric pattern on one side and used the label to cover it on the other. (Lesson learned: don't rag the seam allowances late at night when tired...) It passes the galloping horse test and I'm happy with my results. I consulted the board here more times than I can count while making it and I owe thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge so generously!

If my son received this when he was little, he would have been over the moon. He just loved dinosaurs.
I do miss those days.

You did a great job! It's hard to bottle that feeling of finishing a quilt. Especially your first one! Here's to many, many more!

Great job on your quilt. on my first rag quilt I ended up clipping a block and also just made a patch out of the same fabrics. You can't see it unless you are really looking hard to find it.

Very good job. Aren't they fun to make?! (but not late at night lol)

DoxieMom 01-01-2011 02:10 PM

I was heart sick when it happened, but I agree the patch is very hard to see unless you're looking. I think this type of quilt is very forgiving... and I learned a good lesson!

I am really learning to like the rag quilts. My problem must have been the fabrics that I didn't like. This looks clean and fresh and not falling apart. Good, good job!

Looks very warm and cozy! I bet your son loves it!
