Here it is, my first ever quilt top! There are a few oopsies but overall I am very pleased with it and my son, whom it is intended for, loves it. I'm excited to get it quilted and get the binding on (okay I'm not excited about binding it but I'm excited for it to get completely finished).

jacquemoe 10-12-2008 11:44 AM

Well, I can't see your "ooopsies". Looks like your off to a great start. You will be soooooooo happy when it's done. We are supposed to enjoy the process as much as the finished project. Yeah, I don't much like doing the binding either. :x

Renee 10-12-2008 11:53 AM

Thanks Jackie. I've never bound anything so I'm quite scared of that part! I'll be doing more research on it before I begin.

Way to go gal, I am impressed with your speed, it looks great with the same size border too :D

Barb M 10-12-2008 01:59 PM

Oh it looks gorgeous!!! You did a great job. And don't believe binding isn't fun to do, that is actually my very favourite part, because it's then being finished :) :) :)

Chele 10-12-2008 02:06 PM

What a nice job you did! Hard to believe it's your first! You'll have fun finishing that beauty! I'm sure your son will encourage you along! LOL! Make more!

judee0624 10-12-2008 02:12 PM

:D Good job! Advice on binding: practice on some potholders first. Easy and fast to do and if you goof, sew what? At best, you will have new potholders, at worse, you throw it out. Try QuiltersTV for binding tutorial.

Renee ~ Great job. Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting. Don't let binding scare you. I'm one of those wierd-os who loves to bind. Mitered corners are no big deal if you get yuorself s good book and take it step by step. My favorite resource is "Rotary Magic" by Johnson-Srebro. It's my "bible" when it comes to basic quilting. Hope this helps.

Thank you Nita for the resource, I'll check out my library for that one.

Every quilt has oopsies. I love your choice for a first quilt, the colors are great. I really enjoy putting the binding on. It's one of my favorite things to do. I guess it means I'm done and ready to move onto to he next project.

mamatobugboo 10-13-2008 05:38 PM

Judi - I love your avatar quilt!! Is that your own creation or a pattern? And I agree with you, the binding is one of my favorite parts, so relaxing to sit on the couch and sew it instead of needing to secregate myself in my basement to use the machine!!

Celeste 10-13-2008 05:42 PM

Great job! I'm thrilled for you... first one and off to a great start. I'm sure your son will keep you busy on it!

mamatobugboo. I made the turtle quilt from a kit by The City Stitcher Quilt Collection by Janet Miller #27 Turtle Travels. I did not do the border that was shown because I have issues with triangles ending up where they are suppose to.It was my first time at paper piecing and the first turtle was quite the challenge. I had a hard time getting my head around the paper piecing, I should have done something a little simpler but it all worked out ok in the end. I sent you a pm.

tlrnhi 10-14-2008 01:11 AM

Great job!
Oopsies? Sorry, don't see them!

littlehud 10-14-2008 06:03 PM

It looks wonderful. You did a great job. I don't see any oopsies, besides I say those make my quilts unique.

Marcia 10-14-2008 07:17 PM

Renee--you did a great job on your first quilt.

I love doing binding. It is about the only hand sewing I do anymore. My favorite part about it is that it means my quilt is almost finished. :-)

I was scared of the binding too Renee, but there are lots of helpful threads on here (just do a search for 'binding'), and youtube has some great videos which I found really helpful to follow step by step as I was actually doing the binding, pausing the video as I went along.

I found it was not as hard as I thought. I have never really hand sewn, so I machine sewed it - sewing to the front first, then flipping it over, pinning in place and stitch in the ditch from the front. I've done two baby quilts like that, and while it is fast, I am sure that hand sewing it in the back is tidier, so I am going to try that on the next one.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! Can't wait to see that lovely top transformed in to your first quilt![quote]

Very nice.

sewbusy 10-18-2008 10:12 AM

You have done a beautiful job for a first quilt, and if there is any mistakes that is all a part of quilting. (I didn't see any) Welcome to the addiction of quilting, you either love it or quit. But, I think you already love it, and your son will treasure his quilt for years to come. Are you already thinking of the next project? Enyoy!!!!!!!!!!

Craftybug 10-18-2008 10:19 AM

Your quilt is nice I like it.
