My First Shot at Trapunto

2 Attachment(s)
So happy with this - my first real shot at trapunto. I wanted to do a few test runs before I do a big ol' quilt. I'm really happy with the results. I got a little bit of knotting and realized after a way I could have made it easier on myself. Lesson learned!

All I can say is that polyester batting as earned it's place back in my quilts! ;)

juneayerza 12-08-2012 08:55 PM

What a great job you did with this, I can hardly wait to see what you do with "a big ol' quilt"!

Grandma Bonnie 12-08-2012 09:19 PM

It's beautiful! Great job - good luck with your big quilt but it doesn't look like you need it!

A1penny 12-08-2012 09:24 PM

Wow! I'm really impressed. I've never tried it because it looks hard to do.......! You certainly have the right stuff!

pumpkinpatchquilter 12-08-2012 09:33 PM

Thank you guys so much! A1penny - it's not too terribly difficult, but really time consuming. The hardest part so far has probably been controlling those small stitches around the trapunto design. This has really opened up a whole new door for me though, IDEAS ABOUND!!! ;)

Wow, awesome!!!!

Oh Jan it's really easy I hope you'll try it! This is machine trapunto, so really it's just time consuming more than difficult. You can do it!! :)

HAHAHA - thank you!! You know what? The sparkle is really just a result of the lighting and small stitches. It's a super cheapie polyester embroidery thread from Jo-Ann's...I think it's Coat's and Clark even!!! It's shiny and does sparkle a bit almost once the quilting gets really dense.

Thank you all so much!!! Debra, no I did not use a book. I actually had played with the technique before on a few projects but wasn't sure what I was really doing. I decided to get brave and just read up on it a bit, get an idea for how I wanted to execute it, and then do it!!! It was totally a learning experience and I will definitely be doing some things differently on the next project...but I'm still really happy with it! :)

malega 12-09-2012 08:47 AM

This turned out fabulous. I love to hear and see the results when a chance is taken to push into a new concept in quilting and everything.

I also admire people that can use white. My home doesn't do white well! Black dog:D

Finished! It's still wet from removing the marking pen and needs bound but I'm so happy! It's not perfect, there are definitely a lot of things I will do differently next time...but thrilled to have a new skill under my belt! Now to have fun and play with it!!! Thanks for all the kind comments and encouragment, you all are so great!!!

Tweety2911 12-09-2012 12:18 PM
