My first string quilt
1 Attachment(s)
I posted about this in the Main section so won't repeat it all here. But this is my first attempt at a string quilt, supposedly carefree, relaxed, sewing -- which I didn't exactly find it to be! :) (The white at the top and bottom is a sheet beneath it).
But it was fun and I'm happy enough with the result. It was an experiment, both to use up scraps and because I'd never made a string quilt before, and consequently is far from perfect, especially the secondary pattern of squares and hourglasses. While I love scrappy quilts, I've discovered I'm more of a controlled scrappy type, so will probably plan ahead when making the next one. This one measures about 72x57. bright and cheerful. a great finish

That is a very nice example of a string quilt. Gives me a few ideas if you don't mind. I'm a controlled scrappy type too as I think the next step is wild and too crazy.
Excellent job!

Isn't it amazing how with every quilt you not only learn something new about quilting, but about yourself too? I think the quilt is terrific and you should be happy with your experiment. IMHO it was entirely successful :-)

Pretty top!

It came out great!
Beautiful string quilt. Great work and placement.
Now there is one happy string quilt! I love the pops of blue spread throughout that keeps the eye moving across the whole thing. Well done! Good for you for experimenting. We never know till we try something new. Sometines we are surprised, and sometimes our hunch is confirmed.
You learned a lot with this quilt and the next one will go easier. You did a great job of bringing it all together. Can't wait to see the next one.
Really nice!! Love the bright colors!
Very pretty! Love pattern!
Fun string quilt...I like the colors and the little addition of the blue/purple for interest. One would not know that this was your first string project. Great job.
Love the quilt and red is my favorite!
Very pretty!
It's beautiful--nice job!
It turned out great! Love the colors.
I, too, am a controlled scrappy kind of gal. However in keeping with the reds, with a small pop of blue is pretty controlled IMHO. You did a great job.
Thanks to all who commented....and complimented! Feedback is wonderful and we get the best here! Much appreciated, seriously.

Very pretty quilt - so bright and cheerful!
I love string quilts and have made many and I love the reds and especially the stripe. One thing I can tell you is, be careful washing it; red can certainly bleed on whites. Be sure to use a color catcher. Love it.
I think you did great! I have never seen a BAD string quilt!
That is really pretty.
I especially like your use of blue in this quilt. It is just enough to accent the quilt. Really pretty.
I too understand that random scrappy can be a challenge to some of us. I just want you to know that your quilt is absolutely beautiful. Wonderful choice of color combination.

Nice string quilt.

Bright and cheerful
Very pretty. I like how you did the white strip in the center and how it all came together.
Great job, I think it looks better than you think it does. You are still seeing the areas that you would have controlled more, but those things that you didn't control give it real character!
Pretty top!
I'm liking this one a lot! Great pizzazz!
So bright and it's red my favorite color.
I love scrappy quilts. Well done.
