Thanks for the welcome in the other forum folks :) As promised, here are pics of my first three quilts! The photo's should link to my Flickr pages if anyone is interested in seeing larger images.
This was the very first using a tutorial I found on another sewing site, it's a doll quilt I made for my 4yo's birthday last month. She was really happy with it, the butterfly fabric has been one of her favourites for a long time. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/...02e2c45f96.jpg The second one was another doll quilt for a swap I signed up for, it was to have a Fall theme and I used some FQ's from Moda's Acorn Hollow collection backed with a really bright Kaufman cotton that has lots of metallic highlights, it's a really lovely fabric that I couldn't photo well. I kept this one really simple as I didn't want to mess it up lol! It was my first go at freehand machine embroidery too. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3084/...1b99a047a2.jpg The colours are much more accurate here and you can see the backing fabric which I also used as binding. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3057/...e7aa933ac5.jpg And here's the third one :) I originally planned to make all three kids a single bed size quilt for Xmas but after making the doll quilts and realising there's a *lot* more to quilting than I thought I decided to make them lap size instead! This is around 36" x 48", plenty big enough for my kids to snuggle under on the sofa without taking me 6 weeks to finish lol! The fabrics are all Kaufman cottons and the backing is a deep purple minkee, another fabric my 4yo is particularly fond of so she should like it! I went for pretty large blocks and again kept it simple so it would go together quickly. ShellyQ's tutorials were immensely helpful here :) If I'd had more than a yard of the minkee I would have put a border in but ho hum, it'll have to do without. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3096/...149c8ccd43.jpg The backing, it's a much richer colour in real life and the bobbin thread doesn't really stand out so much lol, it look almost white here with the flash shine but it's a matching purple, honest! You get a good look at my meandering machine quilting though, I much prefer the look of it to straight line quilting. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind on that many times! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3222/...5cff1c5889.jpg I've pieced and basted together the 2yo's quilt, it uses fabrics from the same ranges as the 4yo's but with a slightly different layout, I'm hoping to get it quilted and bound tomorrow while my hubby is home, he can keep them all occupied for me! Thanks for looking :) Charlene |
