This is a quilt for my friend's new granddaughter. It's my first try at using the hour glass block. The baby's nursery is in pinks and black. This was not as hard a block to do as I thought it would be.

OOHHH, I love the bright colors. I think you did a great job.

Very cute! I love how you used the same background fabric in each block and then went wild with the other fabrics. It all ties in together very well! Lucky baby!

Wow is that precise!! Fabulous workmanship!! :!: :!:

Luckily I only knicked a couple of points, but not so much that it's very noticeable. I didn't take a closeup so you can't see them :)

reneebobby 07-09-2008 09:45 AM

Very nice job, she'll be thrilled that you made that.

Hi BJ,
Your quilt is beautiful. I made the same quilt using Civil War fabrics, using browns and pinks. I love it and want to make it in other fabrics.
My pattern is called TIN TYPE and the pattern suggested using civil war fabrics.
Love your quilt and I plan on making another using baby/child fabrics. You did a great job and LOVE your fabrics.

cute quilt-you did a great job on those hourglasses!! I love the bright colors.

bj 07-09-2008 01:39 PM

Thanks everyone. It really was pretty quick and the hour glass was pretty easy. I only sewed the first one together wrong. :) You only have to do that once to figure out that it pays to be more watchful :) :)

How cute is that? love the colours

jbsstrawberry 07-09-2008 04:09 PM

Very pretty!! Great job on the points, I can't do quarter triangles to save my life!!!

bj 07-09-2008 05:36 PM

Lisa, I did half square triangles, cut those apart, turned then so the seams were nested with each other and did hst's again, perpendicular to the seams. That way you aren't dealing with a lot of biased edges. I don't know if that's the best way, but it worked great for this one. To end up with a 6" hour glass block, I started with 7" squares, trimmed those hst's to 6.5", made the hour glass and trimmed to 6".

adyldrop 07-09-2008 05:39 PM

Fabulous! I've seen this pattern and felt very 'meh' about it but with that consistent background and bright block choice---I adore it! Perfect baby quilt! I gotta get a few made...hmmm mind if I copy your idea here?

bj 07-09-2008 05:42 PM

Not a bit...I'm sure I copied someone else's :) :)
