My first wall hanging
1 Attachment(s)
I have been quilting for almost 8 months now and loving it. I've done a lot of table runners, but this is my first wall hanging for my COA to sell at a fair. I have to buy wooden dowels to hang it. What would be the best dowel to buy for a wall hanging?

If it's not too big I'd use wooden skewers for kebabs - you can get them by the package at the grocery store.

If a wallhanging is small, I usually use 1/4 inch wooden dowel. You can buy it in the hardware/ lumber store and some Walmarts carry different size dowel in the paint dept. Your rod doesn't have to be wood though. I have used the 1/4 inch metal rods that the $ store has for the driveway reflectors for bigger wallhangings. They support more and I trim them to size with a hacksaw. I have also used the small adjustable curtain rods from the $ store.
Triangles sewn to a wallhangings corners on the back make nice pockets for the dowel ends. I have also sewn them on the bottom for when I use the metal rods, if the wallhanging needs a little weight in the bottom to hang straighter. Great wallhanging by the way! |
