It's a beautiful quilt! Amazing what those stacked 4-patches can do. And I agree that bordering them really made the blocks pop!

snicker dee 01-31-2011 10:25 PM

I can see it was a lot of work and it is beautiful !!

doowopddbop 02-01-2011 08:16 AM

Oh very pretty. I read thru all pages didnt notice if this was answered. .. is the name of the pattern four patch posey?
I recently did something similar , didnt have a pattern though (big mistake, i ended up cutting material wrong and my "flowers" turned out wrong. the best part of the material ended up as scraps) still a WIP tho.

Your quilt is beautiful! I want to make one of these too, and had thought of strip piecing to streamline the borders around each square and the sashing: thin strip for border, thicker for sashing, thin strip for border. Is that what the pattern calls for? If not, do you think it would be faster than bordering each square?

Oh my gosh, this quilt is absolutely beautiful. I don't know if I would be brave enough to tackle that job. You are my hero!! Love to see the original fabric

sandyl 02-15-2011 04:03 AM

Oh, my I had no idea so many folks had commented on my post. Thank you for all the lovely comments. The fabric is by South Sea Imports (website posted on pg. 3). I think the blocks prior to the border(s) was 4". I added a wide yellow border to the whole quilt. The yellow border had the yellow sunflowers also. This quilt was made for my DH's aunt, in her 80's. She loves sunflowers and has been such a huge help to any/everyone who ever needed it. She lives in Texas so the quilt was mailed to her last week. I hope she loves it! She is a wonderfully, sweet lady who has recently been ill and unable to sew. And I had her in mind from the very beginning of this quilt. She does not know that she is receiving a quilt today.
Yes, it was pricey to make-but such a learning adventure. I will make another one. without the double borders. Oh, yeah I had help in picking the fabric for the borders. My nice helpful LQS owner did that for me. Thanks again, you all are so kind. I will try to be more observant of my topics. I hate when someone will post and then leave town.
