This is a quilt with a story. I lost a friend to breast cancer last year and was having a difficult time with the loss. Another friend suggested that I make something in her memory so I went on a journey through my fabric stash and found four 5"squares that Valorie had given me in a fabric square exchange. I decided I would make a wall hanging and started to play around with matching fabric. Then I changed my mind and decided to make a tote bag. I would go into the sewing room and make mindless squares over and over. Then the bag become a quilt. The four 5" squares were used in the center of the quilt. To be honest, I didn't mean to make the center squares that small but I made a cutting mistake so that decided the size.

While I was working on the quilt I decided that I wanted to do something more so I signed up to do the Susan G Komen 3-Day for the Cure event in San Francisco. So in September I will be walking 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer. My goal is to raise $10,000 in Valorie's name. I then realized her quilt was my fundraiser so I am raffling it off. It seemed so logical because Valorie was a part of it. Nowadays my life consists of fundraising and training and working and I only wave at my sewing room as I walk by but it's worth it.

So that's my story. Thanks for looking!

great quilt--its good to be busy when your grieving--but there is a danger of exhausting your self--try to fit some pure pleasure[could be sewing]into your day--you need to keep your batteries charged--balance in all things

What a beautiful tribute to your friend and a wonderful things you are doing by walking in her name. BUT, do be careful to care for you as well. This is important so you can continue to do the good work you want to do and still maintain self. Thank you for sharing.
