Apparently this was a wedding gift to the young woman I bought it from. The quilt is 52" square and hand quilted by Amish quilters. It is in pristine condition. I paid $13. Too bad she didn't see the value in such a nice quilt. Now it will have a good home.

Wow, what a great find!

Luv Quilts and Cats 07-03-2010 03:03 PM

That is an awesome quilt. How could she sell it? I guess some people are not sentimental or nostalgic. I know you can't keep everything, but letting something handmade and beautiful go is a crime. Lucky you found it to give it a good home!

craftybear 07-03-2010 03:09 PM

beautiful, thanks for sharing!

taiboo 07-03-2010 03:27 PM

Well I'm sure someone....somewhere put alot of work and love into that, and I'm glad you are giving it the home it so much deserves :-)

sahm4605 07-03-2010 03:34 PM

she didn't deserve such an expensive gift of love.

Candace 07-03-2010 03:39 PM

Chele 07-03-2010 04:03 PM

Yay! That beauty landed at a good home. I'm sure you will love it. The gal that sold it to you did that quilt a favor.

brushandthimble 07-03-2010 04:05 PM

her loss, your gain.

sharon b 07-03-2010 04:06 PM

She probably prefers the cheap fall apart ones from the store
Better off with you here it will be appreciated for what it is

franie 07-03-2010 04:16 PM

WOW that was too pretty to pass up.

LovingIzabella 07-03-2010 04:19 PM

WOW!! It never ceases to amaze me when people can so carelessly get rid of such treasures :-( But happily it has a new loving home where it can be appreciated for all of it's beauty and hard work! I went to a local flea market today and came across two old quilts but they wanted a huge amount of money for them and one was so dry rot I was afraid to pick it up and the other one was all hand pieced and hand quilted and the guy had it laying on the dirt with a whole bunch of items piled on top of it :-(

Someday she will regret giving that up. Maybe it was a gift from HIS side.

quiltsRfun 07-03-2010 05:07 PM

At least it ended up with someone who will appreciate it and not as a dog blanket or drop cloth. I often see quilts used as covers on a load of furniture being moved. It's a beautiful quilt and I'm glad you rescued it.

Annaquilts 07-04-2010 06:07 AM

What a great find but I feel some anger over the woman just getting rid of it. So nice though it is now in good hands. She could have had the dog use it. Heard of that too. Blehhhhh! Making a Cal King for DS and his wife to be. I already told him if they no longer like that quilt I will gladly take/buy it back. I do not anticipate that but you hear the weirdest stories. His fiancees mother is also a quilter so hopefully she would know better.

noveltyjunkie 07-04-2010 06:14 AM

What a lovely quilt!! I can't help thinking there must be a sad story there to have led to her to part with it, but I hope it brings lots of happiness to you!

KGoodhand 07-04-2010 06:58 AM

OMGosh! It is amazing what some people will get rid of!!!

Quilt4u 07-04-2010 07:03 AM

Wow!!!! I just don't understand How people that have these quilts do't realise how valuble they are. But then we could not find them and give them a good home. Your quilt is just Beautiful.

I agree with you. There could be many reasons she had to part with it so let's just be glad it has a new home. Someone could have bought it for her. Even though it is hand-made, it very well could be one that was made to sell and was not made as a gift for her specifically.

tmg 07-06-2010 07:42 AM

Nice find

jljack 07-06-2010 08:16 AM
