My Geometry class's quilt...
2 Attachment(s)
Now that I've finally figured out how to post pics again - I'm back - at least for now. Don't think I'm going to teach f/t this next year so thought I'd share the only quilting I got done last year when I got to take my "hobby" into the classroom. Had a couple guild friends who volunteered their mornings to come in and help the kids cut, and sew their blocks after I'd spent a few weeks going thru some lessons on symmetry and tessellations in quilting using Jinney Beyer's book, then had the kids design their own blocks. Ended up running into the following quarter, but then had them make small jeans quilts for a community project to go with doll cradles to be made by the woodshop for Xmas donations...

AWESOME!!!! What a great way to teach!!!

I just read your post and had to re-read it to DH who's sitting across from me on HIS computer. Our comments were that this is an awesome way to teach kids not only a great craft and art, but a lesson in giving, and they all look very proud of their accomplishments. How nice! Great job to all of you!

Fantastic. You bring honor to the title Teacher. Love the quilt with the blocks they designed and sewed and also the cute jean quilts.

Way cool. Teach!

They all look so happy! Great way to teach.

I have always thought that the great quilters of the past were women who were geniuses in geometry. The only mathematical outlet they had was designing quilts.

handiwork will go to charity really warms my heart. Good on you all the way around! |
The students looked happy.
I am glad to see some male students |
Did the kids design those blocks in the first picture? Wow! Also the jeans quilts show some real creativity. You're teaching more than geometry, and more than quilting. Good job.

You are my kind of teacher! Great job by all!

Superb idea. And look at the happy faces! All those kids who say - I don't want to learn this. I'll never need it. Well, it looks like this project has enlightened a few. The jeans quilts are awesome too!

Great lessons, the calculations to satisfy the math, the giving to satisfy the soul! Great teacher. Love your quilt as well as their doll quilts. They look quite proud. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

Super great way to teach geometry. You get a gold star!! It looks like the students loved it, also. I always love hands-on teaching.

Fantastic way to teach the kids, and hands-on projects too. They will know that their efforts will go towards benefiting others. A great thing to teach kids at a young age. Bless you!
