Today, my dh and I were busy working constructing our victorian knot garden at the front of the villa, when the local shepherd and his flock, went by, which is lovely to see and hear as the sheep and goats all have bells around there neck.......when sometime later I could hear a lonely bleeting, and look down into the olive grove, and noticed this new born lamb....all on its lonesome. So off I went to catch it, and trundle up the road to the reunite it with its mother. After a lovely cuddle and a quick photo shoot with the zoom lens on by dh!! Aaaahhh it makes you glad to be alive...trouble was I wanted to keep it - it was sooo tame, not scared in the least. Guess I will have to put one on my xmas list........what do you reckon my chances are???? :) :)

Hmmmmmmm can't you borrow one from the shepard, I'm sure he'll loan you a mama and baby to tend for him. They are all so sweet when they are little :D

Yes, the views are stunning all around us, right down to the ocean, I thank my lucky stars for finding this place - VERY different from inner city Manchester U.K. lol!! :) :)

Ahhhhhhhh. Soooo cute. I see you're a Spaniard! You must get a laugh out of all us American tourists crawling all over your country ooooooh-ing and awe-ing over the sheep.

To us, they're rather a novelty. We don't live with these critters and when we see them, it's a great big treat! At least to us city-slickers.

I know we all went ga-ga over all the flocks in Ireland and watching the dogs was just the greatest part of the day.

I leave Europe with so many warm memories of such quaint countrysides and peaceful flocks. I see Europe through the "lens" of the great impressionists.

However, on this side of the pond, we've got some serious critters that aren't as cuddly or loveable as yours: Pitbulls, black bears, foxes, racoons, possums, etc.

We are from Manchester, U.K., only moved over to Spain nearly two years ago now!! So its a real treat to see all the wild life - we too have some 'serious' critters, venomous snakes, wild boar, black widow spiders, HUGE centipedes that bite and can kill small mammals etc., but it all adds to the excitement and fun, got loads of pictures if you would like to see some lol!!!!

Please post some pictures of your local wildlife, I would love to see them!! :)

Good golly, you're English. I shoulda known when I saw the word learnt. I'm not that well acqauinted with everyone here yet. I assumed you were Spanish and learned English style English, not American English.

I lived in Dusseldorf, Germany for a couple years and embarassed myself to no end with my awkward Deutsch. But, DANG! German is an AWKWARD language anyway no matter how well you speak it. I don't care what anybody says! Hehehehehe.

Now, I have never been to Spain. I had hoped to visit there some day and France, but I'll never set foot in France, there's no way, and Spain, I just haven't gotten around to yet. And, unfortunately, all my travels ceased after 9/11. I just don't have any desire to get on a plane anymore.

So you've got those wicked centipedes! I know the ones you mean! Some folks 'round these parts keep them as pets. Yuk. Some of those other serious critters you mentioned don't fit into my impressionist view of Europe.

I don't really have any pictures of our wildlife. Mostly they come out at night.

I've kicked myself for not carrying my camera around with me, but I spied a Bald Eagle (out national bird) sitting atop a tree by a field and I didn't have my camera. The thing was huge.

Then the other time, I was driving in and about our Eastern Shore of our state when a wild turkey (huge) stepped out of the field to the side of the road. And me without my camera again ...

But, I'd love to see more pictures of your lovely place.

OK, the photo of the snake in the pool makes me want to poke out my mind's eye! The other bug (centipede) is also pretty gross! I like my critters cute and fuzzy!

I LOVE Spain and wish I could go back. I will soon, I hope. Planning that trip of a lifetime and will do it one of these days.
When I took my trip to Australia, we were fortunate to stay on a sheep farm near Canberra. There weren't any babies there, but the farm next door had just had a couple, so we went there to see them. As we were walking in the paddock, we heard the sound of a baby. Just born, maybe 30 min or so. We wanted SOOO much to cuddle it but the farm lady said to stay back so the momma could come get it. We moved back and stood for what seemed like hours and the mom and baby were reunited. Somewhere I have pics of it.
But...I LOVE your pictures. Oh, to NOT live in this hot, humid place and to just move/retire where I want.

Turnhi, where is home for you, hot and humid? Florida?? It gets so hot here today it was 36deg., in full sun, bout 28 in the shade, but as we are in the hills, we always have a breeze so keeps you cool. Heres another couple of pictures of the views seeing as you like Spain.

I would want to keep him too, he sure is cute.

I'm in Guam and it's starting to get brutal with the heat and humidity. Only going to get worse, they say.
I do have a breeze, when the weather permits, and it seems like today is a NON permitting day. I live a block from the ocean, so I do get breezes, just not getting them today. Don't like turning on the a/c only because electricity here is SOOO expensive! Even with a couple lights on, minimum tv and 1 a/c unit running for 6 hours at night, our bill runs between $300 and $400/month. No, I am NOT exaggerating! It's not the price of electric that is the problem, it's the Fuel Recovery Charge, whatever that is. That charge is usually 3 times the amount of your electric charge.

But I digress........I just loved Spain when I was there. Was many, many years ago. We had an exchange student when I was in high school and I still keep in touch with him a couple times a year.

Thanks for sharing all your photos. I loved them all (well except the bug). I especially enjoyed the baby lamb. There are goats in the pasture across from my house and they have lots of babies right now. Tooo sweet!!!

I pretty much ignored the snake and the centipede one.
We have snakes here, but I have yet to see one, which is a GOOD thing, but I have my machete waiting for it! :)
Centipedes are common here too. Had my fill of them when in Hawaii, and now have them here. I just make sure I have a HEAVY shoe/boot waiting on the side for them.

Your little lamb was probably very happy to be taken to his mamma. I hope the mamma was there. Sometimes these little lambs left alone are alone because their mamma died...around here the orphaned lambs are called "Bummer" lambs. They survive it the shepherd can get another mamma to accept the orphan.

Feathers - If you google victorian knot gardens you will see them in all their spendour, we have still along way to go...need to plant the miniature hedging around each shape, we have gravelled the paths but it will take a while yet to get it looking good!! Thanks for your compliments.

The little lamb was reunited with its mamma, it was bleating its head off as I carried it and the mamma came arunning straight away, the shepherds walk for miles around to find feeding for the goats and sheep, and this little fella just got left behind...thank god I found him!! :D

Izy, that was such a cute story about the lamb. Your garden is coming along & hope you'll send photos as it progresses. I will have to google Victorian Knot gardens to get an idea of what yours will end up looking like. Sure looks like a lot of work, but it will be beautiful!!! I do think that the centepedes should stay outside & not in your bathroom though don't you agree. I don't think I'd be walking anywhere bare footed anyway!! LOL

We do have rather alot creepies here...just as well I like nature, but as you say NOT in the house - thankfully I have only seen a couple of those centipedes and I ALWAYS wear something on my feet, even during the night if I need to take a tinkle my flip flops are positioned just so I can slip my feet straight into em even in the dark :roll:

I think I would grab the tops of the flip flops with my toes & shake them out before sticking my feet into them. LOL
