This quilt was my grandmother's who died about 10 years ago. I wish I had asked her more about it but all I know is that another woman, who couldn't afford fabric, made a deal with my grandmother that if she would provide the fabric, the woman would make a quilt for herself and one for my grandmother.

I don't know what year it was made. The hexagon pieces are about 1" on a side. It is hand quilted at about 8 stitches per inch. It is in excellent condition, doesn't look like it was ever used and it has been stored all this time. There is some yellowing along a couple of edges but I see no other damage.

Does anyone have an idea of the age, maybe based on the fabrics?

I will put it on an unused guest bedroom bed under a white down comforter. I've read that on an unused bed and covered from sunlight is the best place to store old quilts. This should help the folds to relax out too.

Wow, she made a great deal.. a completed quilt for the fabric for two.. Id take that deal..

From the picture and without seeing it in person, it has the look of late 1930s.. It could be later, but I cant tell without seeing close ups

This was a very popular pattern during that time

What a wonderful treasure you have from your grandmother!! Storing it open on a bed, especially covered to protect from sunlight, is the best place for it. I cannot see the fabrics well enough in your photo to try to date it. I am sure that others here can give you an idea.

You are so lucky to have received this beautiful quilt. These are the best kind to get, being made by a family member, then handed down. I know you will treasure it always.
