my latest from an accumulation of blocks
1 Attachment(s)
Over the New Year's weekend, I decided that since I could not fit another leftover block in to what I call my orphan blocks box, I sorted it all out and will make charity quilts. Found enough 12.5" blocks for this and two others that are ready to sew together. This one is square, just crooked in the picture. See it from a distance, like here, I should have mixed up the lighter blocks a bit more.
Found a bunch of 6.5" and will do a couple with those. Then there are a huge bag of 4.5 and 3.5. My goal is to get those done before I start anything new. Oh, and I guess I should finish the tops that are in boxes waiting completion. I have a problem I may share with others. If I see a quilt I want to do, I cut all the pieces and make a few blocks, Then my attention wanders and that box gets set aside with its brothers and sisters. There are now 7 in that family that need completion! I am such a procrastinator! |
You're so funny!!!!
I hear ya!!!! Love your quilt- keep going!!! You're off to a great New Year. |
Nice job of putting those orphans to good use!
|
Aw, look....they've got a family!
Great job. Watson |
I think I visit your world often with my wondering attention span. lol
I too am working on some finishes this year. Great job on those orphan blocks. I like what you've done! And, bonus, it sounds like someone else will benefit from your wondering attention span. Lemon's from lemonade. Right. |
looks great

Hooray for a finish! {{clap, clap, clap}} I really like the block in the upper right corner, and the one with 4 x's.

Ooooh....sampler quilts with orphan blocks... Good for you. This is really pretty...
|
THIS is an inspiration to me. I need to do the very same thing. FAST.
|
I tell my husband all the time that he is a "procrastinator".....he says he's a strategically thinking!! See, there is a reason you kept putting off making these blocks into a quilt!!
|
Good for you making a tremendous quilt with your orphan blocks. :-)
I, too, have a short attention span when it comes to finishing. Enter my guild with the idea of choosing 6 UFOs to finish in a year for those who wanted. We put the UFOs on a list and turned in the list and kept a copy. Every other month, a number is drawn and we are to finish that project and take it and share the progress before the next number is drawn. So far, I’ve finished 2 bindings. One quilt was started over 10 years ago! Somehow it helps to have an external expectation group to help me get things done! Crazy! |
Very nice quilt.
|
Looks like it was planned. Lovely quilt!
|
What a great way to put your orphans to good use...someone will love your work.
|
Isn't great that we are not all the same. I know that the charity group will welcome your quilts but my orphan blocks are for me! I have made and gifted so may quilts in my 67yrs that my orphan block quilts are for me to remember those past events. Or maybe I should say that, that's how I feel now. I am so looking forward to retiring and working on my quilts at my leisure and not by work projects.
Thanks for sharing. Karen |
Very lovely. Isn’t it fun to use up those orphan blocks?
I just finished a quilt top with orphan blocks. I added sashing and a few other blocks to finish it and it felt good to say ‘bye-bye’ orphan blocks. :) Most of my blocks were found in donated fabric so they don’t have any meaning to me but I like your thinking Bug Lady. Connie |
Just keep making lots of sampler quilts.
|
Nice job with those blocks and congrats on a lovely quilt!

Very nice job. I would like to know what the block in the top row center is called. I also have a short attention span. I get a quilt almost finished then I have to do something else. I have pulled fabric for a new quilt or 2 while searching for a back for something else.
Last year I tried to finish 2 quilts before I would allow myself to start a new one. Idid pretty good for a while. MY UFO pile is way down. I do have 5 quilts that only need bindings. I will probably bind them when they have a home. |
Procrastinator, maybe--but you came up with a lovely quilt. We all have our own way of doing things and where better to express your true self than in your sewing room.
|
Love your sampler quilt from orphans. Great job!
|
I also have way too many. But, here's what I think . . . . at night when I go to bed, my sewing room is busy 'mating'. Then the next time I go in my sewing room - OMG now they have reproduced!!!!!! This solves the mystery.

Great charity quilt!
|
Nice quilt with leftovers!
|
I just did the same thing.
Love it |
Good use of the orphans
|
Very nice job, I should do that with my leftover blocks, usually I make pot holders for our Craft Sale at church. Like this idea.
|
It's amazing how those different blocks end up looking like they're meant to be together. Now if only I had the confidence that mine would do the same. Thanks for the inspiration!
|
You did a fantastic job. That is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
