Lucked out on this trip to the thrift store. Walked in and they had a big sale going. I walked toward the back of the store and found these 2 lovely old machines - both in cabinets with their own stool and a box of attachments with one of them. Cleaned them up a bit; replaced a plug in on one; recovered the stool on one; and both of them run so smoothly.

How did you spruce-up the cabinets? I have 3 old machines to gift to our grown kids, and would like to clean up the cabinets. They are all intact but need TLC to polish up the wood - suggestions welcome!
Thanks.

How nice. Lucky you !!

The first one looks exactly like mine! It was my great-grandmother's and I used it for a long time. Then I put my Elna Carina in it and put Grandma's in the closet. With all the talk about antique machines on here, she ought to come out of the closet again! Grandma did have a stool with it - but somehow it went to auction when she broke up housekeeping. I have been looking for one ever since. I remember the seat lifted up and she kept her thread and needles in there. Good finds!

The first machine is identical to mine, all the way to the cabinet. I was lucky enough to have it given to me. I haven't got her going yet, as I need to find some place to set her up. Billy cleaned her and got her running nicely for me. Doing the happy dance with you!

Thanks.

I haven't done a thing to the cabinets yet except wipe off the dust. They were in nice shape. Did cover one of the stool tops as there was a hole in it. But we were covering some chair cushions and had the stuff out so it only took a few minutes to do that.

wonderful I love to see old machines get a family to love them

Wonderful!!!!!

Is the first machine, in the pics, a model 99? If it is then you are lucky to have a cabinet to fit a 3/4 size sewing machine. They are a little harder to find than the regular sized cabinets. Now you can find yourself a little green 185j and it can take turns being in the cabinet with the 99!!

I did some checking when I first found them and 1 of them is a 99 I believe and it is the first picture shown. Didn't realize it was hard to find a cabinet for them. I have got to do some studying and learn the differences in some of the machines.
