My Latest Finished Quilt, Twisted Pinwheels

3 Attachment(s)
This silly quilt was a true labor of love. Started by one of my quilting buddies, who got disenchanted with the project and put it away. When I asked her is she had a Twisted Pinwheel Template (She has everything) she said yes and a started project. I agreed to finish it for her as a Charity Quilt. This pattern is a little different from others I have seen here on the board. Every other block is a tone on tone white, which I think really makes the pinwheels stand out. I had a tough time with the assembly of this one as I had no pattern instructions and didn't pay attention when I was cutting out the pieces. Ended up with like a 500 piece puzzle, that took me a week to assemble back together. The blocks were cut 6" and the 'homemade' template was 4-1/4". This was all FMQ, with lazy daisy designs in each pinwheel. The borders were done with a FM vine design. Took me a week to FMQ. Note that the binding is with a flange, that I learned out here on the board, was very easy to do, and I think added to the quilt. This quilt went to a local church for their "Prayers and Squares" program.....

great job. I don't generally care for the twister quilts, but this one is quite different and lovely.

Beautiful quilt! What an accomplishment for you and her. I like all the variety of fabrics. I agree, the binding does add to the quilt. Lucky the person who receives this quilt.

I LOVE my twister tool.I like the idea of setting them 'out' with the WOW fabric. Good idea

Your quilt is lovely.

I treasure the quilt I received from my church just like I know someone will cherish your quilt.

For those who don't know: Prayers and Squares is an international group - free to all - is on the 'net -for churches or groups of faith to support those in need of prayers.

Your "silly" quilt is very pretty and I'm sure will be thoroughly enjoyed.

Even though it caused frustration, this quilt turned out very pretty.

Charming quilt

This is the first twister I've liked enough to want to make one. It's a lovely quilt and will make someone who needs comforting feel very warmed. Our congregation ties ours and prays for the person as the tie is done. Do you add ties to your quilting? My quilt made with a male in mind is being tied this week.

Very pretty quilt!

Your quilt turned out very nice and pretty in spite of all your problems with it. I, too, like it much better than most of the twister quilts I have seen. You did a great job and should be proud of it and someone will get a lot of enjoyment from it.

How did you lay out the squares? I have the tool, but have never made one, and I like yours the best from all the ones I have seen.

Deborahlees 10-14-2012 03:55 PM

Yes I like this layout also, because each pinwheel stands on its own, rather than standing shoulder to shoulder on top of each other.....The lay out is very simple one white one color, one white one color, then on the next row start with a color then a white, that way they are staggered (or offset)....If I can help in any other way please PM me and I will walk you thru it. The most important suggestion I can offer you is 'KEEP THEM IN ORDER'....I didn't and it took me hours to un-do my mess.....My other suggestion would be in the beginning, use a pencil and mark around your template, do several over and several on the next row down, so you can see just how close they are, and you wouldn't get too aggressive with your rotary cutter....
