My latest quilt top

1 Attachment(s)
I've got a problem. I finish quilt tops, but fail to finish quilts! I have a stack of quilt tops just waiting to be finished quilts, probably 7 or 8 of them. Once the top is done the thrill is gone and I lose interest. I and bound and determined to actually finish this one! I love the pattern !

cjsews 09-04-2017 06:30 AM

Nice scrappy. I have way too many UFOs. Like you I enjoy the piecing way better than the finishing

twinkie 09-04-2017 06:44 AM

I am the same way. I found an elderly gentleman that quilted a twin and two lap quilts for a total of $70. That was the total price. Not fancy but they are quilted. Love your top

sprice 09-04-2017 06:50 AM

Nice scrappy! I don't think you are that unusual. We all have our favorite parts of the quilting process. I do love piecing with colorful fabric!

ruthrings 09-04-2017 06:55 AM

If the tops are not going to be made into quilts, you could donate them to your local guild. Their philanthropy committee would get them quilted and donated to a good cause. I am the philanthropy chair for our guild. We have donated to Hospice, Alzheimer's Research, Project Linus, Quilts of Valor and several others.

paintmejudy 09-04-2017 07:06 AM

Love it! Great pattern, beautiful top

paintmejudy 09-04-2017 07:07 AM

Yes, Ruth, our guild is always getting tops that we add batt and back and donate to a number of charities

Barb in Louisiana 09-04-2017 07:27 AM

Pretty Quilt. I, too, like the scrappiness of it.

QuiltnNan 09-04-2017 08:04 AM

it looks great. maybe you can trade jobs with someone who loves to quilt and not piece

nativetexan 09-04-2017 08:18 AM

yep, me too. I'm beginning to use some old tops for backing. just add a bit more around the borders and it fits.

mtkoldra 09-04-2017 08:49 AM

love your quilt !

jlt37869 09-04-2017 09:24 AM

Very nice!

BrendaK 09-04-2017 11:38 AM

Kool. I also have many UFO's that I am working to finish. Congratulations on yours. BrendaK

Tartan 09-04-2017 11:41 AM

Pretty top and it deserves to be a quilt! I taught myself how to machine quilt because hand quilting was taking way to long and I had many tops to quilt. I am down to 2 large tops to tackle.

Jordan 09-04-2017 12:53 PM

Very nice top and great work. I am with you---love to make the top but certainly don't like to quilt it. I love to put the binding on tho'.

b.zang 09-04-2017 01:04 PM

Boy oh boy, that looks like a LOT of TINY pieces. Nice way to use some scraps.

Jingle 09-04-2017 05:48 PM

Your top is very pretty and would be prettier all finished.

I don't have any UFOs. I donate most of my quilts. I do plan to keep making as many quilts for as long as I can. I love all of quilt making.

Mkotch 09-05-2017 02:21 AM

Give yourself permission to have a few longarm quilted. I send my larger tops out for quilting and now do smaller ones very simply (grid or stitch in the ditch) myself. Then I feel I have accomplished something. And simply quilted quilts look just fine. I think we all have raised our standards for quilting after going to shows and seeing very intricately quilted quilts. If people are just going to sleep under them (or drag them around), it is OK for them to be more simply quilted.

sinceresissy 09-05-2017 02:38 AM

Very good looking scrappy. Hope it gets quilted.

Karamarie 09-05-2017 04:12 AM

I try to discipline myself with that. Finish before starting another one. So far it has worked for me. But that next one is always in my head just awaiting.

SusieQOH 09-05-2017 04:20 AM

I'm just like you! By the time I'm finished, no matter how much I like it I'm sick of it!!
I love your top by the way :)

Ariannaquilts 09-05-2017 04:21 AM

There is a organization called HappyCrafters.Net that will finish your quilt tops at a reduced price and the quilting is not bad. You could contact them and then maybe donate your quilts to the people in Texas?

earthwalker 09-05-2017 04:24 AM

I love binding...so that forces me to get them quilted. :) Lovely top you have there, quilted, it will be gorgeous.

ArtsyOne 09-05-2017 04:31 AM

Love your quilt! Add me to the list of people who like the design and piecing but by the time that's done I'm bored with the quilt and have to force myself to finish it. I finally finished quilting a top that's been sitting next to my machine for at least 3 months - now all I need to do is bind it. I forced myself to not start my next one until this one is done, but because of my own edict I haven't sewn in at least a month. Procrastination is my middle name.

coopah 09-05-2017 05:05 AM

I'm the same way...love the piecing, not so much the sandwiching and quilting. This one is beautiful and will be just gorgeous when finished. Just go for it and get 'er done. Easier said than done, I do know that, but when it's done, you'll be proud and any "mistakes" won't show to anyone else. Show us when done!

oksewglad 09-05-2017 05:37 AM

What a striking quilt...the black grounds all those little pieces and gives it life! You are not alone...last fall I got as far as pairing batting, backing, and top...those 5 quilts are still waiting to be quilted! It takes more space to quilt so moving the machine to my dining room table is a drawback for me.

greaterexp 09-05-2017 06:26 AM

It's beautiful! I hope you'll soon know the thrill of finishing the whole quilt and seeing your masterpieces in use!

xenodeno 09-05-2017 07:17 AM

Thank you all for the encouraging comments! I see I am far from alone in the finishing process. I guess where all the UFOs come from! I do intend to machine quilt all of my unfinished quilts starting with this one. I may take nativetexan's advice and use another quilt top as a back and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. :)

sJens 09-05-2017 02:20 PM

You will be very happy when you finish it. That is what I have been working on this summer and am so glad that I decided to do this as I have loved very finished quilt and wondered why I quit working on it.

meanmom 09-05-2017 04:44 PM

I spent the last 2 years making myself finish 2 UFO's to start something new. I have my UFO pile almost gone. I love your quilt.

ccthomas 09-05-2017 06:28 PM

Nice quilt.

zozee 09-05-2017 06:48 PM

What a striking quilt. The vibrant colors with black look great.

When I am stalling about finishing, I have to make myself do it in 15 minute segments. Sometimes that 15 turns into an hour (if I'm lucky and motivated) and sometimes I find I'm satisfied that I disciplined myself to get a teeny bit more done.
.
I like binding, though, especially in front of TV on a cool night--and those have been coming.

Mariposa 09-05-2017 07:28 PM

Nice colorful top!

D.Henson 09-05-2017 09:30 PM

This is a great quilt. Love it!

Clarice29 09-06-2017 04:28 AM

I like scrappy quilts and I like yours. I'm just the opposite. I can't wait until the last stitch of the binding is done. I enjoy the whole process.

RuthiesRetreat3 09-06-2017 06:08 AM

I used to do the same thing. When I moved to Texas I had over 20 quilt tops waiting to be quilted (and several others done but needing binding). When I completed ALL of them FINALLY, I mailed them off to a childrens cancer ward in Wisconsin. I can't remember if I mailed 30 or 33 but it was a bunch.

solstice3 09-06-2017 05:50 PM

I find the biggest drawback for me is sandwiching them. If I get that done, I'm home free! Otherwise they may lay around a while

Taughtby Grandma 09-07-2017 08:20 AM

I really like the way the black sets off the blocks. Very pretty.

Maralyn 09-08-2017 11:35 AM

Love the top. You are not the only one with the unfinished tops problem. Happens to me.

jcraine 09-08-2017 12:04 PM

Looks really pretty!
