Hi all, just finished the top of a Christmas Table Runner that I am making for my DS and DDIL. They made a special request so they could use it to decorate the table for Christmas. Since I am going to visit them at the end of April I figured I would get started pronto!!
I called it mixed media because I painted the faces. Hope I don't offend any of you traditional quilters but I like how it came out. Sorry the big picture is blurry, I did not notice that the large picture was blurry until I had downloaded it and put my camera away. Just did not have the time to start all over again. The other pictures came out ok. I still have to do the back and sandwich them together then quilt the rest. I think I am going to do mirror image quilting on the figures then snow flakes on the background. Hope you all enjoy the pics!   A blurry full view, sorry! Thanks poco and Fiberartist and Marcia. I made this with my 3 young grandsons in mind. They stay little for such a short time. They are 11, 8 and 5 years old. My best buds too, LOL.

Thank you all for your compliments and comments. This was so much fun to do.
My sister has suggested to me that I hold off on doing the quilting until I get up to see her. She wants me to do it on her new long arm quilter. I am biting my nails because I have never used one before and I am only going to be with her for three days then we are going south to my son's house for my second grandsons Holy Communion. I am planning on giving this to them then. So do you all think I should wait and do the quilting there or do it now while I am still here?? I know I can do a good job on my machine here but do not know how I will do on her long arm. She did say she would help me. |
Very cute!
|
Thanks rootyr I can't wait to give it to them. I know they will love it.

You have so much imagination and artistic talent. I love the whimsical design. As far as quilting on the longarm, it might be fun to try, but I would want to practice on something that didn't have so much work put into it first. Since the table runner can easily be done on the sewing machine, do it there and take something else to do on the longarm?
|
I am siding more and more with you on doing the quilting here. I am thinking it is not as if I just fell right into using the longarm and loved it so much that I wanted one. It would not fit in my suitcase to take back with me so what is the sense. I don't want to risk ruining the table runner when I know I could do it here.
Thanks Linda for the compliment and your input. |
cute

Very nice.

Thanks craftybear.
Well I am almost done quiting this tablerunner. I have done over 200 FMQ'ed snowflakes and did them in red. Still have more to do yet and time is running out. I am leaving for NY on Monday the 26th. I am hoping to get all the quilting done by then. Today I worked on quilting the appliques. Big Santa is coming out so cute. I finished the big reindeer and the little guys too. Working on the fur on big Santa's sleeves. I finished the mustach and beard, they came out great. Should have the appliques quilted by the end of tomorrow. Then have to finish the snowflakes, about 50 more to go. After that I am cutting out the binding, have not decided on the binding color yet, green, red multi, cream or black. Should have that machine sewn on by the weekend then can take it with me and handsew the rest of the binding while I am traveling. Give me something to do as I HATE this flight it is way too long!!! I am leaving at 8pm and arriving in NY at 8:45am. Then 6 hour layover at JFK airport for a flight up to my sister's in Ithaca. I am getting tired talking about it.)ç Will post pictures when it is all done. Thanks again for all the compliments everyone. |
Very creative, love them!!

really cute

Hi Pennyswings - this tablerunner is knocking me out!!!!!!
It is wonderful. What an heirloom you have created. How did you do the applique stitching to make it look like fur? The painting was a great idea. Great expressions on Santa. You ROCk!!!!! (this is what the Grands say - I think it means that you're pretty special) |

(this is what the Grands say - I think it means that you're pretty special) As far as how I did the applique stitching, I used a shiny polyester thread and did FMQ'ing in a back and forth motion. I made sure to get it thick enough on the red to look like fur and did the same motion thoughout the cuffs. I love FMQ'ing and am practicing with differernent techniques. I saw a demo on youtube on thread painting and used that principal to do the fur look on the cuffs. I am having fun with this technique. If you want to see the finished tablerunner go to this thread I just posted it yesterday. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-47869-1.htm Thanks again for the enthusiastic response and compliments they are much appreciated by me. |
