Craigs List does it again. I saw a singer ad and called up the guy. I thought it was in bad shape but willing to take the risk, if nothing more than a decoration table. It was very rough, will have to change or try to fix the top but for $75, it's doable. Alot of the decoration on the machine are gone and needs bigtime cleaning up but I have taken in rescue animals for years that were in poor shape..and loved them...so why not an old singer! I'm happy and this will be a big learning curve to redo this. I am looking forward to this. I don't even know if that is paint or some applied decoration, really rough looking at it closely but I like her and on the lookout for more. Now to learn what I can on what model, age, etc. Any comments or info would be appreciated. BTWm, my booboo needle ripped finger is almost healed. Thanks to this group, I have a pattern picked out. Im ready to rock hopefully next week. This board is sooo fantastic with info. What a great bunch of people!! I feel so lucky to be here...

Great find!

So happy for you! You will have her looking like a diamond before long. I love these old machines too but nothing ever seems to come up on CL for this area. Hope she works well for you. :)
|
Looks good to me, I could find room for it.
|
Nice machine, I'm sure it will be beautiful when its cleaned up.
|
Thank you so much. I was at a thrift shop today and there was some kind of gizmo for a singer sewing machine in a red box..
I need to go back there and take a pic.. I have no clue what it is. Usually I carry my camera but didn't have it today.. Will post it when I get back there.... it was $10 |
What a beautiful machine! Have fun with it.

Thank you StitchRipper.

Great Find!! :D:D:D

Thank you Amma
It sits in my living room as I try to decide what to do.. restore or let the ole girl be as she is unless I decide to use her for sewing. I still have need to take the numbers and see how old she is. Good thing to do right now .. |
Well I have the numbers now for the old girl...Singer.. Now I have to find out where I find out the info... Hmm
14601109 is the number on the plate... and then there are alot of patent numbers... 1880, 1885, 1888 and 1890........ This should be fun.. will do a search and see where it goes! |

Here is the main thread: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43881-1.htm I found out that she is an 1897 model. Amazing to me. I didn't think she was that old. Now to get info on how to clean her up and see what else I should do. I already looked for a manual but didn't have them on the sites I looked at. Wow, to think a machine that is 114 years old might work is amazing to me. Thank you again, Donna |
Just a note on old Singer machines, you can go to www.singerco.com to look up the serial number and date your machine. I used to go to a site all the time that this one man kept and he had loads of information on old Singers. My computer crashed and I lost the bookmark but I'll bet if you googled it you could find it.

The cabinet looks really nice. You can also keep looking for another machine to put in it. I have a machine that I want to clean up this summer - its a hand crank -german. Someone that that they should paint it. The decal work and in-lay is beautiful.
