This is my 5 yr. old GGD she was cutting thread for me while I was doing some Red Work, she wanted to sew. So i drew a flower on material and threaded a large needle with double embroidery floss (12) strands and showed her how to do the stab stitch. Away she went now her stitches are very good. She also showed Mom's friend Mike how to do it. What a little Pro. I had so much fun with her.

Aww sweet!

Never to young to start!!!
I started embroidering at about that age. My sister (11 yrs older) was doing it were doing it, so I just followed along.

What a sweet picture! She's adorable!!!

fleurdelisquilts.com 07-30-2012 07:52 PM

She is just a cutie! If she's really good, how her a different stitch, maybe a chain stitch for the stem. Keep adding stitches and telling her how good she is. That's what worked for me. My grandmother taught me when I was young. The only thing, keep her first work for when she gets older. I wish my grandmother had kept mine, no matter how awful it might have been!

AWWW...This reminds me of when my GD and I are together..we sew..sew..sew !! She is now almost 8yrs old..and she has been doing all sorts of sewing (and painting things ) since she was about 3 ! I love it...! she is very artistic.
and creative... warms your heart, doesn't it?

wordpaintervs 08-01-2012 09:51 AM

adorable. In addition to sewing, i teach a basic knit and crochet class weekly. There is a 8 year old child who learned crochet and her mom knitting. She watched her mom learning and taught herself, and now she helps her mom out with her knitting.

Grands and Great-Grands are so wonderful. I wish mine were nearby so I could do what you did. Thanks so much for sharing that precious picture. Hope she gets excited and stays that way with crafting.

Isn't it wonderful when they show an interest in what we do! You're passing on a skill she'll take with her through her life. Enjoy these precious moments with her. They grow so fast. Thanks for sharing.

Your granddaughter is really precious. You are getting her started on a rich future. My grandmother started teaching me to embroider, crochet, and sew quilt blocks together when I was about 5 years old.
