My New Thread Cabinet
2 Attachment(s)
In the spring I bought a new embroidery machine and realized I didn't have enough storage room for thread. I sew in the dining room, which is actually more like an over-sized breakfast nook. Most everything in the room is from the 40's. So I needed thread storage that would not look terribly out of place.
While out at a salvage store I noticed an old transom window, it had fake stained glass but the wood and the hardware was from an old Charleston home. Using an antique piece of glass I had from years ago in place of the plastic, my dad made me a thread cabinet. It turned out really well. It needs a final coat of paint now that it is in place, but overall I'm super pleased with how it turned out. Each row with the thread twists slightly so that it keeps a low profile when closed but still is easy to get the thread off the little poles when closed. Now that it is finally cool again, it is time to sew again and I have a place to store my thread. |

What an awesome piece!

What a wonderful example of repurposing. Functional, beautiful and goes great (from what I can see) in your sewing area/breakfast nook. And how lucky to have a real piece of antique stained glass, which positively makes this wonderful little storage cabinet, to replace the plastic piece.

I love it … what a treasure and so is Dad!
|
What a great way to keep your thread together.

Would love to see more of your 40s sewing breakfast nook!! We have a 200 year old farm house!! Love to see the older look of a house.
