for my niece

I have had this batik layer cake and charm pack forever. I finally used it to make a Christmas present for a great niece. She was the only kid in the family I hadn't made one for. The corner is an embroidery of a drawing she did when she was 4, she's 16 now. The backing was a top from another layer cake. Love the non-traditional Christmas fabrics and OMG, that drawing is adorable.

Very pretty quilt and so nice to do one with fabric you have already collected. There are so many interesting elements of your quilt especially the embroidery of her early artwork. I know she will treasure her gift.

This quilt will have special meaning and be a real treasure for your niece. I really like the idea of the embroidered copy of her art work. It got me thinking of other ways to do this. For those of us who don't embroider, the art work could be scanned then printed on the special fabric available for that purpose. Or maybe use fabric paints or markers to duplicate the art work.
That's one of the reasons I enjoy the pictures everyone shares here. They spark so many ideas. Thank you for sharing. |
The arrangement is interesting and pleasing....not mundane and the sparkler is the drawing.!!!!!!

What a treasure for your great niece. She's going to love this Christmas surprise.
