because it's Tutti Fruitti, Oh Rudy.

this is from our 2007 Blocks of the Month. i'm pleased with each of the blocks ... was more or less content with the top ...

i didn't add nearly enough quilting, though. the batting shrank like crazy. the fabrics didn't shrink at all. sooooooo ... it's a puckered, puffy mess in person. the only way to flatten it the way i like them is to cut it apart, requilt, and then put it back together. not my idea of a good time.

i guess that makes it a Finished UFO.

tlrnhi 11-24-2009 03:04 AM

That's cute!
Sucks that it got puffy!

mosher92 11-24-2009 03:20 AM

that is beautiful. I really like the bright colors.

k3n 11-24-2009 03:22 AM

It's really bright and beautiful! Shame about the puffy although I think it gives it a certain character. Wouldn't a bit more fmq round the outer border work? I guess it would pucker the binding.

BTW - Whose Little Richard?

ranger 11-24-2009 03:58 AM

Too bad you got too much 'puffy'. It doesn't look that bad in the pic. The blocks are really nice and you did a good job with the setting.

Very pretty but I like puffy.

beachlady 11-24-2009 05:36 AM

Little Richard would love that!!!! And it would keep you warm regardless.

janRN 11-24-2009 05:42 AM

Very nice, Patrice. You brought the colors together so well.

Did someone ask "who's Little Richard"? Hmm-guess we're showing our age. By the way, Little Richard is a little puffy these days so your puffiness goes further in paying tribute!! LOL

I do love your quilt!

pocoellie 11-24-2009 05:46 AM

Regardless of the puffiness, I like it. Love the colors and the blocks.

Quilt4u 11-24-2009 06:08 AM

Cute.

renee765 11-24-2009 06:15 AM

Sounds like you've developed a new technique, to me. "How to put puffiness and cuddliness in your quilt"

Bevanger 11-24-2009 06:17 AM

i love the name lol great quilt :D

Iluv2quilt 11-24-2009 06:35 AM

Oh gosh, it's so pretty too! Great name.

sewjoyce 11-24-2009 06:38 AM

I like it!! Sorry it shrank so much....what brand of batting did you use?

Bevanger 11-24-2009 06:39 AM

i love it. great name too :D

Chele 11-24-2009 06:54 AM

Great colors! I remember so many of those blocks. They helped me learn to piece when I was starting out. I think the puffiness will settle once the quilt is used and laundered a few times. It's hardly noticeable now.

Tippy 11-24-2009 08:59 AM

Great quilt!!! I love it.. and to answer K3N's question.. Little Richard is a singer from the early years of rock 'n roll and rockabilly music. a very flamboyant black guy with a big pompadour hairdo.. VERY animated and a GREAT entertainer. When he sings you can't help but move.. he may have gotten older, but he can still play the piano and sing!!! some of his most famous songs were Tutti Fruitti, and Good Golly Miss Molly.. he's about 76 years old now.

quiltsRfun 11-24-2009 09:33 AM

Great name for your quilt. It makes sense to me. But then maybe my age is showing.

Whose Little Richard?
Obviously one of our younger quilters.

I wish! I'm sorry, I was joking, I do know who he is! I said something on Patrice's Marakesh espresso thread about Crosby Stills Nash and Young, implying I was too young to know who they were - I'm not and I do! So I was carrying on the theme! :D

mytwopals 11-24-2009 10:08 AM

Very pretty and colorful. Sorry about the puffiness, though. But I like it, anyway. :D

bearisgray 11-24-2009 10:09 AM

someone also asked -

what kind of batting did you use that shrank so much?

I remember a lot of those tutti fruitti blocks :D :D :D Looking Good!!! :D :D :D

Shemjo 11-24-2009 11:46 AM

Love the quilt and the memories (of the song-I wasn't here to see the blocks)
And I would love to know what batting did that to you!

if i remember correctly, i used warm & natural batting.

i don't blame the batting for the way it turned out. if i had quilted it properly in the first place, then the difference between what did and didn't shrink would have added just the right amount of wrinklage. i got lazy.

one day the mood will hit me to fix it. for now, i can at least take it out of the UFO column.

or i could just use it the way it is and "get over myself". it isn't like it was ever destined for a museum.

earthwalker 11-24-2009 05:38 PM

I think it's beautiful....and it deserves to be loved to bits.

sewnsewer2 11-24-2009 07:59 PM

I'm sorry it puckered on you but it is very pretty!

littlehud 11-24-2009 08:29 PM

That is so pretty. I love the colors. Sorry it puffed up, but I kinda like that effect.

I think it's great. As as one of my DDs said, "quilts are supposed to be 'bunchy.' " The more you wash it the better it will look. Fold it up and put it somewhere that it will be used a lot. It'll be the favorite.

Had to give a good laugh on this one!   You must be very young. I love it. BTW, I don't think he's doing too well right now. Some health problems.

PS (edit):
OOps ! You got me. That's what I get for reacting and responding before I read the complete thread. teeheehee. You're good.

Aunt Patti 12-28-2010 07:35 PM

It is so cute I love the colors I am a pink girl all different shades of and rose and light mauve colors This happened to one of my moms quilts so she ran it through her mangle (Iwould have to iron it)she didn't undo her quilting but then she tied it. Something like that may work no matter what it is really pretty

patricej 12-29-2010 12:28 AM

thanks for the compliment. :-)

i still have it. one of these days i'll fix it. just not today.

gaigai 12-29-2010 12:34 AM

I like it!! You could try wetting it thoroughly, & spinning it as dry as possible, then lay it out pulling it into shape as much as possible, or even pressing while wet from the center out. That may restretch the batting somewhat. It's too pretty to give up on yet.

patricej 12-29-2010 03:39 AM

not to worry. i haven't given up on it. i'm going to cut it apart, add quilting, and then reassemble it by attaching the blocks to an additional back and resashing it. it will probably be smaller when i'm done but that's ok.

Aunt Patti 01-07-2011 11:06 AM

Oh Patrice I think it is really gorgeous but I am in LUV with anything pink I think its pretty and I like it when stuff gets a little puffy but what you are saying it has too much puffiness breaks over back to the machine happy stitching go day to stitch dark and dreay and really cold !!!!! :-P

paintedquilt 01-07-2011 11:18 AM
