I would love to make a quilt on it. I can remember mly grandmother letting me sit under the machine and pedal when she was tired. It was such a treat to be allowed to do that! :D

dvseals 08-19-2009 08:38 AM

hehe Me too, I could sit and watch/help her work that machine for hours and be totally happy.

Our home burned down when I was 14 so her's is gone, but this one belonged to my DH's grandmother, so it is special to him.

I have one very similar and the local Singer store carries the leather belt. You will have to cut it to size when you get one. I ove the old one so well that I have 3 that are all early 1900 :D

I just bought the belt today. The lady said to place it in water for about 15 min, and then put on the wheels. Will have to be cut some. Is it hard to do?

dizzy 08-24-2009 09:39 PM

i got one at joannes , michels or hancock fabrics.

wuzzle 08-25-2009 03:39 AM

No, The hardest part for me was to put the little holes in to attach the metal hook. I borrowed an awl from my husband to do that. You will love how straight the sewing stitch is on your machine. I bought my years ago at a local flea market. Since then I have found other great old machine that I clean up and get running again.

the only part that scares me is getting the belt on. I couldn't believe how cheap it was,so if I screw it up, I won't feel too bad.   I have another one, but it is in really bad shape, don't think it can be saved, but can't stand to throw it away either.
