The husband and I went out of town for the high school basketball games and I found a wonderful quilt shop. I have been wanting to try the OBW quilt and these are my picks.

They're both great fabrics, but especially would love to see the first one done in the OBW's.

I have a book called "Sew One and You're Done-Making a Quilt From A Single Block" by Evelyn Sloppy. They have at least 3 colors in them. Maybe this isn't what you mean by a One Block Wonder but that is what came to mind when I read your post. I'm sort of new to quilting and not familiar with all of the terminology.

Those could be great. I can't wait to see your blocks.

This is the beginning of a tutorial called Tip Toeing through the Hexagons. or One Block Wonder. It is quite the technique <wave>

They are going to be good for OBWs, especially the first one. Let us see a few once you've cut, please.

Waiting to see what you come up with.

I really like your second choice. Lots of colors and movement. I took a OBW class and ended up with a quilt that was at least a single bed size. My teacher recommended oriental prints as you get very specific repeats on them and you will need 6 repeats of the fabric pattern. It's actually a very simple quilt to make. You just need to be very accurate in layering your repeats and in your cutting and sewing. If you are buying fabric just for an OBW quilt ask your salesperson if she has one of those right-angle mirrors so you can view the fabric from different angles. Mine had one and we went all over the store with it looking at fabric.

I was doing a search for directions for the One Block Wonder and came upon this thread. Was just wondering if you ever got the blocks made from those beautiful fabrics? Or is it still waiting for a turnnear the machine?

kwiltkrazy 12-30-2010 05:31 AM

Both of those will make beautiful OBWs, the second one will have more variations of color.
