the story is just heartwarming! i am experiencing the empty nest thing right now and so much of the time i wander in circles and nothing gets accomplished! your quilt is outstanding and your talent and workmanship are fabulous. the back of the quilt is priceless. this is nothing short of amazing and something you will snuggle with and treasure the rest of your life and then it will be passed down as a legacy.

OMG. You did a fabulous job. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into this quilt.

Great love the center big square with your name and all the other items.

LindaMRB 03-25-2013 05:00 AM

Lots of nice blocks, great story and quilt. I too have thought about Dear Jane and started collecting patterns for 10-inch blocks, all of my own choosing. So far, all I have is a stack of paper. Your quilt will be an inspiration for me!

kittiebug 03-25-2013 05:01 AM

What I want to know is: Did it help you find your way through your midlife crisis? Hope it worked! It's beautiful! Love the back!

sharin'Sharon 03-25-2013 08:18 AM

Your creativity is amazing. Can't imagine the time you spent on these blocks, but you can now be reassured that it was definitely a healing quilt. Thanks for sharing the story and the quilt.

Yes, it sure did. I figured it was a much better use of my time than pacing the floor and crying over the fact that a child had grown up. I needed something to focus on that re-affirmed who I am.

onaemtnest 03-25-2013 09:11 AM

How wonderfully creative and personal!!!! This quilt examples the true definition of heirloom quilt. Simply a fantastic memory quilt, I'm very impressed!

Empty nest for me was a long progress, I'm glad you found a practical and stunning solution to those days. It does get easier especially if grandchildren join the family one day!

JoanneS 03-25-2013 11:57 AM

Congratulations on finishing your personal memory quilt. I like both the front and back. It looks like you did a lot of paper or founcation piecing. Nice work!

Mariposa 03-25-2013 12:14 PM

Very neat quilt!! :)

Shorebird 03-25-2013 01:39 PM

The idea, planning, and execution of this quilt are just fantastic!! It is truly one of the best I have ever seen - and the comfort that you must get from just looking at this, much less using it is, I am sure, indescribable......WAY TO GO!!!!!

QM 03-25-2013 01:42 PM

Good job! what does your inspector say?

MargeD 03-25-2013 01:48 PM

Great quilt. Nice that your son's 9-patch blocks made it into the quilt.

mjhaess 03-25-2013 02:00 PM

That is just awesome....

MimiBug123 03-25-2013 02:06 PM

earthwalker 03-25-2013 04:33 PM

It's a beauty....what an intelligent way to deal with a "life crisis"....much smarter than my current thought which is pack a bag, hop in my car and just drive:). Well done and thanks for sharing.

fatsewcat 03-25-2013 05:32 PM

What a beautiful way to create a legacy and family heirloom. I hope you've recorded the significance of each of those blocks so that your grandchildren or great-grandchildren can some day look at them and know a little about who you are.

Sewbeeit2 03-25-2013 06:31 PM

Love how you floated the pieced checker lard border. Wonderful "me" quilt.

Sherryquilts 03-25-2013 06:33 PM

What a beautiful quilt! It has so much meaning and I think better than a charm bracelet. I was reading thru all the comments and was just thinking that I hoped that you also have a written history about all of the blocks and what they meant to you. Like Pam S said - for your grandchildren and great grandchildren to know who you are - I can just see future children sitting on the bed with this quilt finding the blocks that go with the story....

HELA46 03-25-2013 09:20 PM

Hello Jenn, It was great seeing you mention the Rockingham block. I live in Rockingham Western Australia. Right on the ocean, surrounded by Dolphins.

owlvamp 03-25-2013 09:26 PM
