The first says 'star' - the second says 'pansy' - and I think alternating them would look nice! But if MIL likes pansies, go with number one - if she likes stars, go with number 2. I myself like stars!

I'm a MIL. To me, the first one is pointed and straight lined, rather rigid. That's the message she may get.
The second is softer, curvy, and feminine.
What kind of a MIL is she? She should love that you made it just for her whatever you decide.

If it were mine I think I would alternate so you have both, as they are just too pretty to decide.
