My Personal Temperature Quilt

5 Attachment(s)
After looking at pictures of temperature quilts, I decided that I wanted something original.
So, I personalized my temp quilt! I collected highs and lows starting with my birthdate. Then, each year until 2020. This made 60 blocks, so I arranged them in 6 equal columns (decades), with 10 "dates" each. Larger squares are the highs, and middle squares are the lows. The temperatures were amazingly diverse!
I used all 3 machines!
  • My old reliable Bernina to piece together
  • My new sit down longarm to quilt
  • My new Bernette to embroider the binding-First project!! using her
Along the top: I labeled each decade
Along the right edge: I created the color key-darker shade for upper temps, lighter for lows
Along the left edge: I placed the day
Along the bottom: I didn't know what to add, so I added my name.
To secure the rest of the binding, I serpentine stitched between info.
And, I like the fabric on the backside!

I love your take on your own personal temperature quilt!

Love this idea!

Have you lived in the same area for the entire time? Or did you use the area you lived in during each year to look up weather data?

How big did you make your blocks?

Clever and original, and a beautiful and interesting quilt to look at. I like the use of your stencils to quilt too.

Thank you! I made the blocks 6", but I wish they were 5"! I used the data from south Texas. I've lived here all my life. The fall temperatures vary greatly because our winters are mainly a series of cold fronts. Last week, one day low was in the 40s, and the high for the next day was 71!
