Here's a picture of my Grandmother's sewing machine I inherited. The paperwork is from when my Grandfather went to the factory and picked it up. I comes with a 10 year warranty bought new in August of 1914. I think the warranty has run out a couple times. It still sews beautifully.
This is what I learned to sew on when I was about 8 or 9.

NICE! I recently purchased a Davis NVF that is in a cabinet that looks like yours. I love my machine, and have already used it for straight stitch quilting and for attaching the binding. I think it is awesome that your Davis NVF has stayed in your family. You should come chat with some of us in Billy's Vintage Machine Shop. We have fun chatting about our finds and using our vintage machines to make quilts.

I wish my mom hadn't bowed to Daddy's pressure to get that "old thing out of my shop." She finally did. I wish I had Great Grandma's treadle. Mama can't remember what kind it was. :(

Wonderful heirloom. Lucky you!!!! Enjoy.

I was only about 17 when my Mom "got rid" of her "White" treadle machine that I learned to sew with. What does a teen want with that old thing? Shoot me now! :-(

she's so pretty! I have my grandmother's also. She & my grandfather were married in 1907. One time she explained to me, "to start a home in those days you needed three pieces of furniture: a bed, a kitchen table, and a sewing machine."

I would love to have had my grandmothers machine too. She had an old treadle on one of those old ironing machines that did sheets and stuff like that. I remember thinking how big it was.
