Great job. Bags can be very time-consuming.

Amazing bag! Wonderful job too.

Beautiful bag...I was able to find one very much like this to purchase (not hand made) and that's ALL I use when I travel....yo would not believe what I stuff into that bag!! I always take a gallon zip lock bag stuffed full of snacks (airport food is so expensive), plus all the normal things a woman carries in her bag....you did a beautiful job!!
|
Nice bag. Good job.

WOW! Lovely job and fabrics are terrific. I can see your bag is something I am not ready to attempt just yet but I so admire your bag. Wonderful. Thank you.
|
WOW - what a great bag, and finishing it in 2 days - awesome. I'd say the bag has everything you need and then some, I love, love, love it. You deserve lots of praise for a job well done. Congratulations.

Awesome! Beautiful bag.

I have made about twelve of these, i have worn out three at least myself, the rest went for diaper bags, and overnight bags.

So is the challenge in making this bag figuring out the written directions or the complexity of the sewing (all of the compartments, etc.)?
Just small things: I didn't see that she told you to baste the zippers in first. I would never attempt to put the zipper in without basting--but she tells you just to pin the zipper in place, and then place the facing on and attempt to sew all three layers together. I can see failure there.... It wouldn't work for me, for sure. You have to do some cutting out of the corner of the lining, for example, but she tells you exactly what to do. I had to reread some of the instructions through slowly in order to understand them. I didn't totally understand attaching the big long inner pocket that is divided into three compartments--but I got it in. I didn't think that diagram was totally clear to me--maybe it's my age...;0 Difficult because of the complexity: There are lots of thicknesses when you are dealing with the bottom. At least with my interfacing, I could see some machines not dealing with that well.... The instructions are clear if you have the fabric in front of you and just follow them--as they are written--- even if at first they don't make complete sense. I tried to read the pattern all the way through first and tried to visualize everything, but that's not the author's fault that I couldn't do it very well. (I had a hard time with Geometry in high school because I don't see spatial very well until it is visible...) I had never put in a middle zipper pocket, making sure the sides were attached to the bag. I had never done a magnetic snap before but in the pattern she said that she had instructions on her website, so I took a quick break to check that out. I appreciated that. But overall, a really great pattern! Don't let me scare you away from trying it! Just take it one step at a time. She does some great things like a summary sheet of your pieces you need with a sheet of labels that you can copy off and attach to your pieces to help keep you organized. That was really nice! With the exception of the inside flapped pocket, I thought her instructions were quite clear. A couple of places she even says to "Admire and then set it aside as we had to work on another part". It is true--I was looking at it, kind of in amazement as I worked. I had made some basic totes before--I mean, pretty simple--started out with a kind of grocery bag, and even did a lined simple tote before with outside pockets, but this was by far the most advanced one I've ever done. I like all the extras like the pockets and the cord locks/velcro, etc. It could make it expensive, however, if you had to pay regular prices for each thing like cord locks for $2 each/ velcro, etc. |
Such a beautiful bag from start to finish! You are inspiring many persons to tackle this pattern. You've even gotten me thinking about how I could use such a bag as I have been retired for a few years and have accumulated several totes for my hobbies! Thanks for sharing....

They seem to have added the magnetic snap on the outside pocket since I made mine. The last one I used Soft & Stable instead of the fusible batting. I liked the look better and it was lighter in weight.
you fabric choices are great and I'm impressed that you did it in 2 days. Good job |
Great bag!!! You did an exemplary job! Could you tell me the size of your bag? Thank you.

I think it's astounding that you did anything in that heat but sit in the shade sipping ice tea! The bag is lovely!

All the bags are really nice.

Awesome bags!! Nice job!!

Really nice bag - I keep looking at the patterns - but as of yet that's it. :)

gorgeous fabric and great bag

I have done this one, too. I cut out four of them and did them at the same time. Glad I did them that way because I am not sure I would have done the rest if I had done one at a time. Everyone loves them.

Pattypurple, how did you use soft and stable? Since you don't iron it on, did you quilt it to each section?
Just had another one requested today so looks like I'll be back in the sewing room. |
Beautiful ... great fabrics!

Beautiful bag! Nice choice of fabrics. Several of my friends have made this and are thrilled with it's use. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing.

Love you bird fabric, great job, very pretty. I am sure who ever gets it will love it.

I am complaining because our weather is in the mid 60's in the morning and might get up to the 70's by the afternoon. I can't sew if I am to cold. I live in the SF bay area where it is cool most of the time, and then by the afternoon the winds kick up that makes it colder.

Awesome bag! I am going on vacation in a couple of weeks and was looking for a pattern just like this. I am thankful that you shared all the pictures and information with us. I was very interested to see all the pockets and inside the tote to get an idea if it would be what I was looking for. Thank you soooo much for sharing.

Amazing bag, thanks for the great detailed pictures

Bringin' back to the top:

*** Very nice bag. *** |
Very nicely done....and thank you for the detailed pics. I just started one of these bags after having the pattern for MANY years. I wanted to make it yet it was so intimidating....there was a post here that said just take one step at a time....so I am..so far so good. There are a lot of steps, cutting etc. but I think so far it goes together pretty quick and easy....and instructions are pretty good. I only have a short time each day to work on it, and so far pretty easy to pick up where I left off.
I do agree that if you have never seen or made a bag before you might want help making the bag. |
very nice//

Beautiful bag. You thought of everything you needed in this bag. Love it!
