Some call this pattern Trip Around The World, but I found a similar quilt on an Amish website, they call it Shadow and Sunset. This is my version. I had to reduce the size to post so I'm hoping it's not to blurry. Machine pieced but hand quilted in 3 panels. 2 are done but I pinned on the 3rd panel so you could see how the whole quilt looks.

Around the World is on my short list of things to do. I hope you strip pieced this one.
I have been collecting Amish color combos for my AtW quilt. I will, of course, refer to your photos as I decide what color combos look nice.

Nice execution.

Very beautiful quilt! Your color choices were perfect!

I am new to quilting, and would love to do the bargello effects, did you stitch this using the same method as bargello, into longstrips, joining into a circle, then separating at different points to re-assemble? does that make any sense, its on my list to do?? beautiful work and your hand quilting is a credit to you, love the colours especially!! :D  :D

Wow, this is very very pretty! I have also heard it called sunshine and shadow. I am making a sunshine and shadow one right now too...the reason it is called that, is because on the quilt, wherever there are shadows in your life, if forms a beautiful pattern, if there was just sunlight, there would be no pattern. Beautiful quilt!

"Sunshine and Shadow" is the Amish name for your "Trip Around The World" quilt.

The differences are the Amish don't use patterned fabric in their classic color quilts. In their vernacular, you make "English" quilts. Doesn't matter if you are from Czechoslovakia or Brighton Beach, it's still called English.

Very nicely done.

Wow! Your fabric choices are spectacular with this pattern. I'm so glad you decided to share it, it is truly beautiful and such an inspiration!

Debbie Murry 02-24-2008 06:11 PM

Thank you all for your compliments. They are appreciated deeply. I started this quilt before I logged in on this website so I didn't know what strip piecing was (I wish I did now). Nope every square was stitched separately. I didn't have a rotery cutter either then (now I do). I had callouses from all that cutting by hand. This has truely been a labor of love.

bj 02-24-2008 06:53 PM

It's just beautiful..easy to see where it gets its name.

rein 02-25-2008 04:05 PM

Debbie, your quilt is absolutely divine! You put me to shame! I have a rotary cutter, can do strip quilting - but cannot imagine doing all that let alone doing it piece by wee tiny piece. Your are totally correct calling it a true labor of love! SUPER JOB! I love your color choices too!

henryparrish76 02-25-2008 04:13 PM
