The squares are all raw edged. I basted them on a piece of fabric and then I top sewed and also added batting and then made up a bag. I tried to install a zipper and it looked awesome, but it was on upside down. I ripped it out and added a button and crochet a latch. I also added a few appliqués from left over pieces. |
Has anyone ever used a fabric stiffer on a bag? I don't want it really stiff but would like it a bit more stiff. I did use batting/one layer and then another layer of a interface - a pellon shape something...forget the name. its ok but I like it to be slightly stiffer.

When I took a purse making class, our instructor had us use Decor Bond to help stiffen the sides of our bags. I like Décor Bond, but haven't as yet looked around for something stiffer. It very well could be out there.
Your bag is cute. Thanks for sharing with us. |
Your bag is adorable, I love scrappy. The appliques finish it off great.

@grmamrtha1 - did the Decor Bond make the bag really stiff or just slightly? Was it still bendable?

My husband also said to use heavy Starch. I may try that also since I have some. Not sure how long it would hold up though.

I really like your bag.

Love it!! You did a great job.

Very cool....love the fabrics you chose.

I make bags frequently. I like them to stand up and I use the fusible pellon fleece. If the fabric is thin I also use iron on interfacing for a bit more stability. Most of the time the fusible pellon fleece is enough. They hold their shape and wash well. This bag had only the fusible pellon fleece used. |
