I had to give up my Quilting Room when we moved our business back into the house due to the economics. This area is 3'x9'. The left 6 cubbies hold more than 100 yards of fabric(I counted it), my templates are in onr of the boxes, some of my rulers are on the eall others between the 2 cubbies. My radio, and below it my Euro-Pro Iron (love it). My ironing "board" hides behind the door when not in use. My FW sits where I use it the Brother is up against the window, the Janome is down behind the chair. I have to put the FW and Brother down to open the Treadle it sits on or to bring up the Janome. The TV is up to the right of the window. The cowboy blanket by the ironing board is Foxy's bed, he scoots as close to Mama as possible. This work quite well, I made 14 quilts last year and 4 so far this year. I move the Brother to the Dining Room table to quilt those I do not do on the LA which is at a friends house cause she has the room. So those of you complaining about so little room, it can work well, if you organize. Keep only current materials close at hand, store the others under the bed, in closets, wherever.

Looks great to me!

I moved from a 6X9' room built into our garage into a recently empty bedroom in the house, at my husband's insistance.

I had been there for 11 years, and I didn't want to move.

Now I have a lot of room and I can't find anything...

You are so right, my old sewing room was a mess. I thought I had to have everything out in plain sight or I didn't feel
comfortable. This setup just works and when I get tired I can lay down and watch TV LOL. It seems to keep me on track not looking at ALL of my fabric and WIP's, just the current 4 or 5 that I am working on. I rotate my fabric back to the closet when I finish a project. The new fabric goes on boards and into my cubby. Sooner or later all of my fabrics will either be on boards this way or used up. Thanks for looking.

QuiltnNan 03-29-2011 01:29 PM

as quilters, we make do with what we are given... scraps can make a beautiful quilt and small spaces can, as well.

missgigglewings 03-29-2011 01:36 PM

nice space and about the same size as mine! Is that a Dallas fleece throw on your bed? Go Cowboys!!

SuziC 03-29-2011 01:38 PM

You have really nice space even though you say it's small. I think it looks like a really cozy place to make great things!!!!

Sorry, hit it twice!

It looks like you have all the light you need to sew by. Just watch out for fading on your stash. You might want to have some sort of cover to protect the fabric. (I bought some fabric that faded on the center fold and cut it into strips before I realized I could not use the center of each strip.)

Looks like the perfect place "to get it done."...........

This is really inspirational to me! We moved to our new house almost 8 months ago and I thought I'd get the spare bedroom. But hubby's business had to go in there-economy couldn't swing an office outside the home. So I'm on my sewing cabinet at one end of the family room along with my desk. Stash in plastic bins on high shelves in laundry room, extra supplies in boxes in the basement. Sort of discouraging to have to move all around the house for different aspects of quilting, but it does get me up off my be-hind. I have to climb the stairs to the kitchen to do any cutting on the island. Any space can work, really!

Nice cozy space!!

Hi. Everything at arms length.....even the Ginger Snaps?

hobo2000 03-29-2011 06:10 PM

My window has uv coating on the inside that my son installs. No worry about sun doing damage with that. The Dallas cowboy is my little red dog, Foxy's bed and cover. Bears is Redskins. Two of my sons are Dallas fans and two are Redskins fans. LOL

The way you have it set up, it seems like the room is bigger then 3' x 9'. You did a great job at utilizing all the given space.

patimint 03-30-2011 03:42 PM

Looks like it is working for you. I think quilters are great at "making do". When you had to "down size" you sewing area, you "Made do" and got a lovely, snugly sewing area

butterflies5518 03-30-2011 04:29 PM

I think this is a very nice space, everything within reach. I have walk each time I need to iron a seam! uhg!

jansquiltn 03-31-2011 12:57 AM

As long as we have somewhere for our therapy sessions everyone will be happy. I'm working out of a 5 ft closet.

ykreeves 03-31-2011 09:05 AM

It's very "together"...I learned a long time ago, it's not the size of the area, but the organization of the area that's the important thing. When you are organized it makes it functional as well!! You are blessed!!

Silver Sandy 03-31-2011 07:18 PM

Everyone's quilting room has to suit them. Like me, I'm left handed. What works for me, may not work for someone else. As long as things are easy for you it's fine. Your room is nice and everything is the way you want it.

mtnative 03-31-2011 07:22 PM

Thanks for sharing this as I always thought I would have to have a HUGE space. You have done this so efficiently.
