This is my first time to post a picture. I made this blanket this weekend for DD whos little one is due in Sept. I used six inch squares of stars and hearts patterned flannel and no batting. It is small for a newborn. It was fast and fun to make. Now that I have a digital camera and hope I have this all figured out I will post more of my projects in the future.

Nice job! Looks soft and cuddly. Can't wait to see your next project! :)

I love it. Looks like a warm and cuddly blanket. Can't wait to see more of your work.

That is so cute!!

Your blanket is so cute. I really like NOT using interfacing with my flannel blankets. Two layers of flannel is warm and pliable--soft and cuddly.

blahel 02-24-2008 03:47 PM

your baby blanket is lovely..wish i had seen yours before i started making mine...i will definitely make a raggedy blanket next as you have inspired me. Did you use the spring loaded scissors to cut your fringe as i have heard that normal scissors hurt your hands? I have been looking at some for a while and am saving my pennies (dollars!) for the fiskars ones as they are pretty expensive.

PattyAllayne 02-24-2008 04:01 PM

How do you post pics?

Belinda 02-24-2008 04:52 PM

Thanks everyone! I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Now I'm working on a table runner made the same way. We'll seee..........

ilena 02-24-2008 04:57 PM

It is really beautiful! I can picture a little babe snuggled within. I want to make one too! Is your backing a white flannel as well?

ButtercreamCakeArtist 02-24-2008 05:03 PM

Belinda,
It is lovely! My 2-year-old is sitting here (on my arm--sorry about the typos). He is loving and talking about the stars!
Great job!

ilena 02-25-2008 03:34 AM

Thanks for the pic of the back!
I think this idea has been moved up to the top of my "must do" list! - I've always put backing in all my quilts and would like to try something a little lighter and baby cozy for my baby coming in April.

Diamonds 02-25-2008 06:51 AM

It looks really nice and warm..

The directions are the very first posting under "Quilting Forum -> Pictures". They are easy to follow. Good luck.

Cuddly! I love the fabrics you chose. That baby is going to look so sweet bundled in your quilt. Make more!

Mamagus 02-25-2008 12:57 PM

I love the sweet little quilt but remind your DD that the baby should never be left unattended while lying on the quilt.

I hate to keep harping on this, but we have to remember that sometimes crafts and children don't mix.

Here in Canada those types of quilts would never be mass produced as they would never pass Health Canada safety guidelines and I am sure you have the same type of safety net in the US.

Your message puzzles me--I don't understand why a flannel blanket is unsafe for a baby? What am I missing here?

You know I didn't quite understand that either. The baby would actually be covered with the smooth side of the blanket and I never leave my grandbabies unattended. :?: :?: :?:

Thanks for the pictures.... It's a sweet, sweet blanket. Lucky baby!

Someone on the internet has spread a story that babies will choke to death on the raveling rag quilts........I got an e-mail ,and also read it here in messages......After they are washed and shook a couple times, nothing much comes off. I have never heard a true story from anyone about a baby chocking and yes the US govt has regulations on everthing sold to the public. I have made them for church, no chocking babies yet.

Thanks for the info--I had never heard this and do not believe it could happen. But at least I know where the writer was coming from. :>

Tricky 02-28-2008 05:07 PM

That is smashing!!Is there a pattern somewhere with the instructions as I have never tried a raggedy quilt!!
I loved the stars too!!!

Feathers 03-01-2008 01:00 PM

How absolutely adorable. I love your baby quilt. It's wonderful. I've always enjoyed the rag quilts and I can see your flannel made up beautifully and I'm pretty sure mom and new baby are going to love it. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Celeste 03-01-2008 04:29 PM

Adorable, pretty, and snugly quilt.

I think we are getting way too paranoid as a society and worry too much about everything. Don't you?

I think our government is taking away our own responsibilities to take care of our children. Where were they when ALL the paint used was lead based and we used our OWN choices as to the approprate age for the toys we gave our kids to play with. Not to mention the proper foods to FEED our kids. Most of us grew up to be intelligent, sensible, and all around good people. I'm not saying there wasn't accidents and stuff but we didn't blame anyone else for our own choices. Besides most parents are going to do their own thing anyway. And as to the obese children these days we couldn't afford the fast food places so the kids got good food and not an abundance of soda, cookies, and other snacks. Lots of excercise outside too cause there were not computers or DVDs either. Shame. We had no one to sue cause our kids or ourselves were overweight.
