I took a piece of muslin and "created" a pattern....there's a double layer of fairly puffy batting just on the very front of the drawer.....nothing is glued. I pulled the ends of the fabric around and used a staple gun to hold the fabric on. I just poked a hole where the screws for the knobs go and used fray check around the holes so the knobs help to hold things in place as well. The board itself actually sits on top of the dresser top so the dresser itself won't be affected by the heat and steam. I used a layer of flannel, a double layer of warm and natural type batting, and a layer of muslin underneath the decorative top and the board itself is just a piece of laminated shelving board. All in all, I'd be able to take the dresser almost back to it's original condition if I wanted to.

By the way - I think I'm taking the boards advice and leaving the top drawers just the wood. I considered making yo-yo's out of the drawer fabrics and just putting behind the knobs to tie them in with the rest but will leave them mostly just wood.

It's been a fun project and now pressing doesn't seem so bad!

Did you just use regular cotton fabric on the top or something else? What a great job you did.

I used a cotton "duck" fabric - 30% off at my local fabric store
