My scrap quilt solution

1 Attachment(s)
Last week I posted about a scrap quilt I was making, but thought it needed some flying geese or something to jazz it up. Many quilters disagreed with me, and finally changed my mind. Thank you! Instead I off set every other row and like this idea so much better. It's added interest to my four patches. Tried it on my tall queen bed and it could still use a row added to each side for the width. Or maybe just a border along the edge...I'll have to look to see what I have enough of in my stash.
So far, this is it.

I like the color combinations on this. :)

Very jazzy the way it is. That's going to look fabulous on your bed :-)

Wonderful!! and not every quilt must have a border at the top either. so maybe just sides and bottom....

GingerK 11-10-2022 03:25 PM

Lovely! Changing up the pattern really gives it interest. Your scrappy is absolutely beautiful!

I like the occasional rectangle!

A stellar use of scraps that you turned into a beautiful quilt. Pat yourself on the back!

A great looking quilt!

Great job Linda. I love the rectangles that break up the space and add some pizazz to your wonderful scrappy.

Karamarie 11-11-2022 06:18 AM

That is very pretty. I made a quilt using 2 1/2" squares and I just did squares, squares, squares and more squares and really liked that too. I still have a box of 2 1/2" squares.

What a great use of scraps!

Lena1952 11-11-2022 08:22 AM

Well a great quilt and a great way to use up scraps! I love it.

RedGarnet222 11-11-2022 09:54 AM

I admire your organizing skills and the use of scraps. It must have taken a while just to get your blocks to all spread out and look such nicely spaced colors and lights. I have so many in bins waiting for inspiration to get started on one myself.

While looking for inspiration to start such a venture, I ran across this article by a master. Just in case someone is just starting like me. Best Scrap Quilt Ideas & Tips - Quilting Ideas | A Quilting Life

Beautiful scrappy, my all time favorite.

materialworld 11-11-2022 03:07 PM

Pretty amazing! I love your quilt too!

cashs_mom 11-11-2022 03:56 PM

Oooh, pretty! I really like that. I think a border of one of the darker colors or even a pieced border would look great.

maryb119 11-13-2022 03:03 PM

Great scrappy!! My scrap box is overflowing. I should try this one.

"I love the rectangles that break up the space and add some pizazz to your wonderful scrappy."
Me, too! I think I need to do one of these in the never-ending battle against the scrap tubs.

Wonderful cheery scrappy quilt. I hope you were able to put a dent in your scrap stash.

lindaschipper 11-18-2022 04:39 AM

Ladies....I'm now calling this quilt my "Monster quilt" because of the size it ended up being...it's king sized! 98 x 110 and will have a wonderful drop on my tall queen bed. Yesterday I sent it off to the quilter because it ended up being too large for my Grace Sr2 frame. Proberly won't get it back until after the new year. :(
I've promised myself never to do one that big again as it took hours and hours to iron and trim thousands of threads off the backside. We won't even talk about the seams that didn't somehow get nested (but they are pressed flat). Hoping the lady who quilts it doesn't pull her hair out or kill me.
I am my own worse critic for sure!!
Now I'm wanting to use my scraps for flying geese.

cherrybsixty 11-18-2022 04:45 PM

It's a beauty

Love what you did with your pieces. I could see me making one, yours is so pretty, but not in near future. I am exhausted cutting and piecing 2.5 inch right now. Made my Yellowstone and a Goodnight Irene with these small pieces were both large quilts, so I’m really played out-lol Tell me if I’m wrong but looks like 3 sets of 4 patches with 2 strips on both long sides. Strips must be 2.5 x 6.5 each for length of 12.5 to match the length of three 4 patches.

quiltingcandy 11-18-2022 11:04 PM

You quilt is fantastic! What are you doing for a backing?

lindaschipper 11-19-2022 04:22 AM

Toogie...correct on all the sizes! Actually I made the four patches last year and then stored them back not really knowing what to do with them. Kept me busy and out of trouble...LOL.

lindaschipper 11-19-2022 04:25 AM

The backing is a Riley Blake print in a bright blue. I edged the border out in a green/white small floral print and then made binding in a mustard yellow. It will be bright! I'll post pictures when it returns back from the quilter.

Love the quilt
