Thanks for all the nice comments. The selvages are from very narrow up to probably 2" wide. I'm an equal opportunity scrap/selvage user :). I use the flat method of layering each selvage and stitching the edge so it's really not stiff at all. Granted, it's a little heavier than a regular pieced quilt but still quite usable if I choose to. I first sorted selvages by color to determine if the idea was even possible. Then when I found I could easily fill a project box each with the main colors I designed the layout.

Hi! May I ask, what is the flat method of layering each selvage? I've always wanted to do a quilt from selvages, but, just don't know the ins and outs - to feel confident enough to get started.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt with us !!!

Wow! That's beautiful!

The flat method is sewing along the edge of a selvage that is placed on top of another selvage while using a foundation material underneath. The turned method requires a wider selvage so that you can stitch and turn like a regular seam.
I've realized that selvage sewing is a great mystery to most so I am working on a tutorial with pictures and will let you all know when it's posted.
