OMG, what on earth happened? Did the water leak onto your sewing machine????

:cry: What a mess, hope you can save something.

I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to explain: woke up @ 4:30 a.m. last wednesday to the sounds of what I thought was rain (since I live in florida its common). It got louder, I got up checkd my bathroom and heard it from the sewing room. Switched the light on and there was at least an inch of water everywhere. I called the fire dept. they knocked on the upstairs neighbor's door and upon entry found that the owner had left the bathtub running with clothes in it (don't they believe in washing machines?) all night long. She was very apologetic and remorseful and luckily she had homeowner's insurance but I had none. But all will be covered the ceiling, dehumidifier and loss of everything in that room. Quilting is my livelihood since my divorce so this really hurt me. All I could do was stand there and cry and mop for 3 hours. Since then the plaster has come off and fallen some. I am waiting for the insurance adjuster today.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Especially since you NEED to sew to earn your living! I hope they are able to repair and replace quickly. Hey, just think, a new machine!!!!!

Just a little "mom moment" here - talk to your insurance agent about getting some renter's insurance. It's an inexpensive way to pay for piece of mind, particularly if you lose your ability to work. I can't imagine it costing more than $25 a month...more or less. It's worth it.

That is so awful; is her insurance covering your losses? You can dry out your books and wash up your fabrics, you should be able to dry out your things to make them usable again. Hope your machine didn't get damaged.

All of my quilting books took a loss, they were inside the armoire. I have been trying to air it out but know that not all of them are salvageble (sp?). As for the fabric not many were harmed thankfully but will be claiming the bookcases since they are now getting brittle at the bottom. My sewing machine doesn't turn on now either.

Yes I called my insurance company on wednesday the same day of this and I got renter's insurance now at $20 a month! Thank you!

I'm so sorry. I do hope your insurance will cover all the damage. I would sure hope that your upstairs neighbor has a conscience and will replace some things. I hope that your machine is fine and that you'll be able to save most of your stuff.
