Here's a few pictures of my little sewing room. My two pugs, Mister Bean and LuLu, like to sit with me and help me. My two grandchildren like to hang around in there too.

Mister Bean and LuLu

You won't believe how I made the window treatment. It's a piece of fabric glued to a cardboard fabric holder. The sheers were $5 on the clearance table at WalMart

My cutting table and tool board

My little sewing area. I am hoping to put a birdfeeder outside the window this spring.

My design board. I made it out of foam board and flannel and spray glue. It cost less than $15.00

Mister Bean in the rocking chair. My son got the Singer machine for me at a flea market. I hope to have it restored some day.

A quilt I've been working on for Bailey, my sweet granddaughter.

My Lee Middleton dolls are on my "stash" cabinet. The quilt folded over the door was made by my sister in law from my grandparents clothing.

And a quilt top I just finished for my sweet little grandson, Caleb

Great room - seems like a good place to spend a lot of time. Pugs are the cutest! I just want to hug them.

Shelia 02-22-2010 04:28 PM

Hug a Pug!!! I like the saying at the bottom of your reply. We have lots of pet hair. Pugs are notorious shedders!

Great room. Isn't it nice to have a room all to yourself?

Shelia 02-22-2010 04:34 PM

Great and cozy sewing room! I love your helpers! I've always loved pugs, I've had a pug mix before and she was the sweetest dog I've ever had!
Kind Regards,

Wanda_GA 02-22-2010 06:15 PM

Really nice and looks so cozy.

Chasing Hawk 02-22-2010 06:23 PM

Wonderful area, and those pups...I love 'em. Do they help you out by cutting fabric or picking up the thread clippings? Or do they just supervise?

Oklahoma Suzie 02-22-2010 06:40 PM

great room and friends.

MollieSue 02-22-2010 08:13 PM

I love your room!! Absolutely love how you have it decorated! Was the little framed dress your's when you were little? Very creative on the window treatments too - they're great! Is that a cookbook holder, holding a quilting book/pattern? Something I never thought of!
And now I'm going to have to clean my room, after seeing your's! ;) lol!!!
Definitely one of my favorite rooms I've seen so far! Thanks so much for sharing it! I keep going back and looking at the pictures over and over.... :) :)

WONDERFUL sewing room! It's so cheerful and neat/organized. If you get tired of your two helpers, I'd take them off your hands!

Great sewing room and quilts. Only one problem... it's too clean!

rootyr 02-23-2010 02:56 AM

A wonderful room. Love your curtain idea!

ConnieF 02-23-2010 02:59 AM

nice room and a design wall so nice to have, I am trying to figure out what I might move to get a wall for one...

Nita 02-23-2010 04:52 AM

Nice room and very cozy & inviting; Kind of makes me want to join you with a cup of coffee and do some quilt talk.

I happened to notice the Q-Snaps quilt frame ...... you didn't mention it. How do you like it? I was thinking of getting a frame like that for hand quilting, but wanted to hear someone else's input before I made the purchase.

Shelia 02-23-2010 05:15 AM

Mollie Sue- Yes, the little red dress was mine. It's almost 52 years old! My Momma didn't dress me in pink or pastel. I wore RED!!

And yes, it is a cookbook holder. It sure comes in handy.

jewelps 02-23-2010 05:20 AM

very nice

Shelia 02-23-2010 05:21 AM

Nita--Yes, it's a Q-snap frame. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't have room for a large frame, and this one is lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of room. BUT, it's a little awkward when quilting. If I had room, I'd rather use a large frame that I could roll the quilt on. So, I have been experimenting with my BOM project for 2010...I have been quilting each block as I finish piecing (they are the pink/blue/white blocks on my design board)and quilting larger quilts without a frame or a hoop. I just pin it closely. So far these two methods have worked well for me.

You have a wonderful room  I bet lots of beautiful quilts are created there :-P :!: :-P

Sheila ~ Thanks for your input. Yes, the fact that it is portable and does not take up much space is exactly the reason why I was looking into the Q-Snap frame for hand quilting. I'm familiar with the product line because I've used the smaller Q-Snaps when doing cross-stitch and punch needle hand work. It is doubtful that I would ever tackle anything larger than a wall hanging, when it comes to hand quilting. So, for what I have in mind, it sounds like the Q-Snap might be fine? What are the dimensions of your frame, if I might ask?

Jingle 02-23-2010 09:52 AM

I have a frame like yours too. I stopped using it when I started FMQ and will never go back to hand quilting, I like FMQ so much better and so much faster.

Shelia 02-23-2010 10:19 AM

Nita--I will measure it when I get home and get back with you.

amma 02-23-2010 02:03 PM

Thanks craftiladi,

Yes, those pugs love me alot. They follow me from room to room and I wouldn't have it any other way! :-)

I really like your sewing room! It's so homey and inviting! I like your design board. I'd like to make one, too. It sounds easy! Your sewing machine reminds me of my mother's machine which is what I learned on growing up.

Lori B. 04-13-2010 05:55 AM

Nice sewing room. Love your helpers. :)

Shelia 04-13-2010 06:01 AM

I made my design wall for less than $15. I bought two large foam boards at Hobby Lobby, a can of spray adhesive (Hobby Lobby again), sprayed the foam boards with the adhesive and covered them with batting from my stash (I wanted it to be kind of "puffy" so that a pin would stick in it), then I covered them with flannel purchased at (you guessed it) Hobby Lobby. I mounted the boards separately with "L" brackets (Wal-Mart, they were not expensive) and just to make sure the flannel stayed on I attached small black paper binder clips (Wal-Mart again, not expensive. I went to Hobby Lobby 3 or 4 times that week, with my 40% off coupons, but it was on my way home. I really, really, really like my design wall. :-)

My son bought the sewing machine and cabinet for me. He knows I like "old stuff" and someday I'd like to have it restored.

Thanks, Sheila, for the details on making your design wall! I bookmarked it for future reference.

Shelia 04-13-2010 11:38 AM

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy it and get to use it often.
