I should note that I started moving things around and it WAS NOT this bad before I started. I stopped in the middle to take the pictures.

I should add that ALL the bags you see, YES, there is fabric in them. lol

There have been many that have asked me what my sewing room looks like. So, since I have the tops done to Hugs & Kisses, I needed to straighten out my room so I will have room to move to finish these off.
Remember, this is a BEFORE picture and yes, it usually does look like this when I am done with a project. lol
The walls really aren't yellow, they are actually tangerine.....
The 3 bigs shelves you see between/under the closets are for storing NON quilting stuff. We really don't have alot of storage in this house, so we have to make due every place we can. There is a curtain that goes over those shelves, but a naughty little girl pulled them down while she was being nosey.

The dresser under the a/c has fabric in all drawers except the top one which holds patterns and the bottom one which holds tableclothes. My blue and yellow stash is also in there.
The oriental jewelry stand next to the dresser holds, what else? My oriental fabric. In the drawers are my needles, scissors, bobbins and whatever else I decide to put in there. Oh yes...there are some patterns in there also.
Next to that is my older Kenmore that I use when my Ergo3 decides to not play nice. Right now I use it to wind bobbins because the Ergo says NO, not winding them at the moment...she's tempermental at times. You can see the Ergo on the long table.
The armoir holds fabric behind the doors, but in the drawers are small pieces of batting. The drawers have been broken in moves, so I don't put anything heavy in there. You can see my dolls from the doll swap at the moment, they are sitting on my Singer Touch N Sew.
Sorry the one picture is blurry, not sure why. In the corner, the green shelf holds my Christmas fabric. That is sitting on top of my grandmothers Singer that she used in the 20s & 30s to make sails for the fishing boats. No, it's not a treadle. :(

mkanderson 07-12-2009 02:39 AM

I likey!!! It looks "lived in" to straighten mine up I would never find anything in there!!!!!!!

tlrnhi 07-12-2009 02:40 AM

LOL
Believe it or not, I moved the Hugs & Kisses into my bedroom so I don't lose them in the sewing room. Smart, huh?

mkanderson 07-12-2009 02:44 AM

now are you sure you will "find" them? LOL

Lacelady 07-12-2009 02:48 AM

I have a TV in my room too. I was wondering if I was the only one - now I know I'm not. Well done for being brave and showing us the 'before' photos.

Ninnie 07-12-2009 02:48 AM

Well, I've been on this board for 4 mo. now and this is the first sewing room I have seen that looks anything like mine!!!
OI thought all those others were just pretending to be a quilter!
In fact I have your sewing room's twin!
On my list of things to do this week, clean sewing room!
That is a room of a sewer who gets totally involved in her work. I love it!!

Mamagus 07-12-2009 02:51 AM

Oh Terri... we are twins separated at birth! My sewing room is identical!

I start to clear it away but the minute I have space to start another project the cleaning stops and off I go!!

Alaskan lady 07-12-2009 02:58 AM

WOW..........I'm jealous. Would love to have a sewing room. LOL

tlrnhi 07-12-2009 03:28 AM

I wish this were a TRUE sewing room. I have things in here that have nothing to do with sewing, such as the desk that my older Kenmore sits on. It's Courtney's but she has moved into a smaller room and there's no room in there for it. For a house that is 2000sq ft, there really isn't much room. It's pretty much 2000 sq ft spread out over 3 levels with very minimal storage. EVERY closet and I do mean EVERY closet in the house...they are all in the bedrooms, are full to the max with boxes/bins. I don't have any pictures on my walls because the walls are cement and with the pain in the butt landlords we have, they would make us pay to fix the holes we would have to drill in order to hang anything.

Ninnie 07-12-2009 03:32 AM

Hang in there Terri, you'll be home soon and you can put as many holes in the walls as you want!!
I know I do!

This is the ONLY place where we have not hung any pictures. Usually my walls are plastered with them. I have alot of Fine Art that is just sitting in the closet collecting dust. I paid a TON of money for them and no one, not even me can see the beauty in them. :(

barnbum 07-12-2009 05:10 AM

Oh goodness--it makes me want to go in there, roll up my sleeves and make it calm. :D :D

Oh yes--you'll be in YOUR house soon enough (or maybe not soon enough) and then we'll really see your personality at work. I can't wait.

Barbm 07-12-2009 05:19 AM

My room looks similar, but not as cluttered- I would have heart palpitations if this was my room. Sorry- clutter makes me nervous. :)

I HAD to clean my room- I was walking past the closet and a big tub came flying out at me and hit me on the leg. I was not near the thing- it just slid off the top of them stacked 4 high. So I figured I should straighten them up (did not say clean- just stack them neatly).

My problem is I get into looking at things and projects come to mind and then.... so much for cleaning.

When will we see after pics?

Bevanger 07-12-2009 05:20 AM

that looks like my room. I have got to get it cleaned up. I'm thinking I'm missing a box of fabric. It just seems I had more at the old house and now its almost gone? Oh man, Here I go looking to see where it took off to. I thought all my sewing stuff got put in my sewing room... :x

tlrnhi 07-12-2009 05:38 AM

Yes, there will be after pictures.
Probably in a day or 2. Gotta give me time to figure out WHERE I am going to put things.
I actually thing some of those things on the big shelf are going to go to a new home...Salvation Army!

*QuilterWannabee* 07-12-2009 06:21 AM

Thanks for sharing! I was thinking your room should have a sign that says "Genius at work." Organized chaos would describe the spare bedroom I sew in.

Esqmommy 07-12-2009 07:11 AM

I now get to relish in the moment that my dining room is no longer the most "lived in" room in our land of sewing room postings. I can't wait to see the next set of pix you post - it will be quite the transformation. My only question - how do you iron????? Your board is filled girlfriend!

Riversong 07-12-2009 07:13 AM

I like your sewing room. I can help you tidy up! Just throw it all in a box and send it my way! :)

sewjoyce 07-12-2009 07:18 AM

Oh Terry, you are sew brave!!! And I have a sewing room that is a twin to yours   I was just thinking that I'm since I finished some blocks yesterday and need to start on the blue/yellow swap blocks, that maybe I should clean up. But then, maybe not! If I do more than dust/vacuum (well kind of sorta), I end up fondling and refolding fabric all day and dreaming up new projects....

My ironing board is usually cleared off. I needed someplace to put things, so that's where I put the stuff until I could clear it off.
I'm about 1/2 way done. Tried to go to bed, but laid there thinking of the mess in the room. Straightened out a bit more and am now on my way back up the stairs, but thought I'd check in here first.

Bevanger 07-12-2009 08:29 AM

go get some sleep dearheart. it'll still be there in the morning unless the sewing angels do it for you overnight

Ducky 07-12-2009 08:36 AM

Terri, that is actually how my sewing room almost always looks. Plus I have three trash cans in here that are almost always full - *things breed in here I think*. When I posted pictures of my room before, it was because I actually had cleaned and rearranged it. That lasted for maybe a week, now it's back to avalanche zone. As I've said before and will say again, "When I grow up I want to be organized".

amandasgramma 07-12-2009 08:40 AM

ROL!!!! Yes, my sewing room gets that way but I have to admit....I LIKE my sewing room neat and everything in its place. WHY??????? I get claustophobic AND with early dementia (at least that's what my DH says I have :? ) I get so frustrated trying to find things!!! BUT even with a neat and orderly sewing room.....I can't find my fabric pencil and my seam ripper!!!!!!!!! I give up -- I'm going to go buy new ones!!!!

bearisgray 07-12-2009 08:47 AM

thank you for posting those pictures.

I try to start out neatly - and then when I go looking for something - - -

I need to make some bare spots again.

Rhonda 07-12-2009 08:53 AM

When I am in the middle of projects I shove the fabric that i just cut off out of my way over onto the other side of my table. When it gets where I have only a 1 foot x1 foot space to work in and I am shoving the scraps and other stuff back every few min. to have room to move I know it is time to find the bottom of my table again!! I do the same on my sewing machine! I pile with the intent of doing something about it later and before I know it I am shoving things back to stem the avalanche. When I get frustrated enough with the situation then I sort it and put it away.
I start over with a clean table and sewing machine but it doesn't last long!!
My DH and I are both pilers and I have to take time once in awhile to find the bottom!!

Oh maybe it wasn't Terri who was my twin separated at birth. How old are you? I think YOU might be my long lost twin! That is identical to how i work!!!

Today was too hot to be outside so I set the fans a-going and went and unearthed my sewing room. It felt good! But I know it is only temporary!

BDor 07-12-2009 01:22 PM

Terri, my room looks just like that when I am working on a project. When I get finished, I clean up and every things look nice until I start another.
I have decided I cannot create without chaos. I think it is a mark of a geniu--don't you.

I can see some floor space, I don't think you're working hard enough! LOL ;-) ;-) ;-)

Mine was just like that last week, only it's a much smaller room. I'm taking Pam's advice and cleaning and tidying after every project, it's working well so far!

Mamagus I'm 53 and twins run in my family! I always wanted to be a twin!!
Whenever I lose something like my rotary cutter or a mini mat I go rooting through the scrap pile on my table. Usually it is under there somewhere!!! I work better when things are in chaos. I reuse a lot of scraps and it is convenient to have a pile of leftovers to look through. I don't have to pull out any zip locks of scraps to look for what I want!
Creativity thrives best in chaos!!! But just look at the beauty that results!

Ha ha, I am with you on the pencils. Last year I bought two sets, one for me, and one for a quilty friend. I lost both. I finally found one set and gave them to my friend, but never found mine, so I had to replace it. All my Irish friends tell them I should pray to St. Anthony to help me find things, but since I am not religious, I think it would be a bit naughty of me. I'll come across it one day, and then I will have a spare!

My grandparents were from Ireland and grandma would always pray to St Tony ( I call him ;) ) 99% of the time the item was found within a day or 2 and not looking hard LOL

beachlady 07-12-2009 02:25 PM

Terri, I do hope you post pix of the finished room. You sure have a lot going on in that room!

SulaBug 07-12-2009 02:28 PM

OH Terri, I love your sewing room!! :D
It's a real sewing room, it's great. It's
so nice to know that I am not the only
one, with a few things laying around in
stacks!! Thanks for being you.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
