ok so here's my son's quilt. I'm a total basic/beginner sewer so this is far from fancy. I have like no time to get fancy! ha ha but it's cute I think! here are some pics. I paid a lady to do the machine quilting, I have yet to try that! oh and yes I machine sewed the edge instead of hand sewing it. I wanted it done fast...oh well. here are the pics and I threw in one of my son rolled up in it!

Cute quilt! Don't worry about the binding being machine sewn. Look at Eddie's post of "Olivia's Checkerboard Quilt". If it's good enough for ribbons at the fair, it's good enough for anyone.

So cute...quilt and son rolling it up. You should be proud of your first quilt....it's cheerful and your son seems to love it :)..Congrats.

Great job on your first quilt!! My mom makes beautiful quilts and she machine binds all of them- it's all in what works for you.

I bet he will love that quilt to death! Looks like he has started already. LOL!

Rymer 09-13-2009 03:46 AM

thanks for all the wonderful compliments ladies!! It sure does make a girl feel good about her sewing! I have made a couple of quilts prior to this one, but they were all basic squares minus the yellow brick road in my avitar (but I had a lot of help with that one, LOL) anyway I love doing it so I will keep on going and hopefully get more fancy. I actually bought a stippler foot for my machine so wish me luck on that one!

I have hand quilted one quilt in my life.
A wedding quilt for our oldest son, and I decided to just do a straight line.
After doing a straight line through the queen sized quilt, I understood why people starting doing curves and different things, and I think that is when I decided to learn machine quilting.
You will see ....
you will start simple, then you will start branching out, then you will start experimenting ... it is a process <g> we all go through it to one degree or another, and it is a necessary part of becoming proficient in anything.

I am definitely very excited to start trying this....I just need to make something to practice with first! most likely a pot holder or baby quilt but we are heading to Disney in a couple of weeks and I still have a couple of dresses I need to make my daughter so those are first! then back to the quilting. it's so much fun, I love it more than making clothes because i HATE zigzagging all the edges w/ dresses and skirts. I don't have a surger
