My take on Drunkard's Path

1 Attachment(s)
I don't have this quilted yet, but a friend encouraged me to share the picture of the floppy. I am not even sure if I will border it or just bind it. I got a new Drunkard's Path die for my Studio and was anxious to see what I could do with it. Like all my quilts, this is made with recycled fabrics. This one uses pieces of 4 sheets. (total cost to make so far is $4)

I laid it out on a King bed for the pic, but it is 60X60.

How cool! I love using repurposed fabrics in my quilts as well.

Kassaundra 09-19-2017 11:38 AM

That is the best spent $4 I've ever seen!

Wow! You got your money's worth out of those fabrics! Well done.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I use recycled good quality 100% cotton sheets plus regular high quality quilting cotton stash fabrics. But I have been kinda sneaky about recycling as there are those that speak disparagingly about it. I am not an art quilter and just piece between 100-150 quilt tops every year for charity giving. I make quilts that are meant to be used up and worn out like my grandmother did. Yours is just stunning. Suddenly I am quite proud of the quilts I have been making thanks to your beautiful flimsy. Recycling and going green never looked better!

A wonderful way to showcase the floral fabric. Love the gray with the florals. Good job!

Innov8R 09-20-2017 05:44 AM

Thank you, mhollifiel, I have been timid about sharing too openly that I use recycled sheets. I buy my sheets for $1 and read the fiber content when I buy them. I decided that I would be more open about what I do. I enjoy making quilts out of recycled fabric for environmental, cost and creative reasons. I know I will catch a little flack, but as they say "each to her own." I appreciate your supportive and encouraging comment. Like you, I use new high quality batting and always have a few quilting cottons in my stash when I need them. I have the luxury of a huge stash at a very low cost and I enjoy quilting every day.

First off, you are an angel making that many charity quilts each year. I also use recycled sheets as backing when possible and they are very worthy of being used for quilts.

The quilt in the photo is proof that sheets 'need' a new lease on life, to cover up with and not just slide between them.
Great job on the top.

laurilli 09-20-2017 06:14 AM

WOW that is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I also use a lot of recycle clothing or fabric from tag sales, (now on limited income), little creativity goes a long way. You nailed it.

DonnaPea 09-20-2017 06:14 AM

What a great use of sheets - lovely quilt.
