Great Idea - thanks. I also have recently purchased an embroidery machine and find myself with lots of spools of thread to store. Glad to get this tip before I went in the wrong direction regarding storing them.

One thing I still have left to do is to replace all the hair ties with clear plastic tubing to hold the thread on the bobbin.

Invention is a beutiful thing. Way to go I'm sure it was alot cheaper than my thread storage container from JoAnns on sale.

muttmama 10-23-2011 01:22 PM

I tried the clear tubing also. Be really careful...it is hard to see.I made a mess once, putting on a bobbin without removing the tubing My eyes aren't what they used to be. lol

What a terrific storage system. And how do you do the plastic tubing?

Lowes, etc. sells clear plastic tubing by the foot. I think I bought 1/2" or maybe 5/8" tubing. I then sub cut it into smaller pieces that will fit my bobbin (approx. 3/8" and then cut the pieces so I can put them around the bobbin.

It's kind of like those bobbin buddies, only a lot cheaper and see-through.
