I went to the local thrift store today and they had 15.00 bucket sale on clothes. All the clothes you could fit into a bucket was only 15 dollars. I manage to get 5 blazers 8 pairs of pants 1 sweater and 3 skirts into 2 buckets. Did I mention that they were all 100% wool. Spent the afternoon watching movies and ripping seams. after washing and felting this is what I got. I'm going to use the sweater for mittens and the turtleneck part for a coffee mug cozie

You are so creative. I would never have thought of repurposing those things. I want to see the finished products too. Great find.

Way to go. Years ago I collected wool clothing from thrift stores and cut them into strips and made large braided wool rugs. The collecting was the most fun:)

GREAT for you! Don't you just LOVE thrift stores.

I went to one that had $5.00 bag sale on clothes.

quiltgrammyt2 02-19-2011 06:27 PM

Great deal! I always forget to look for wool clothing when I go

I did this too! Or at least I tried. :roll My MIL made room-sized wool rugs. My niece has them now and they are still perfect after 50 years of use in bedrooms.:

The quilt on my bed has a fabric that I love. I bought a size 3X muu muu at a yard sale for $.75 and had yards of fabric.

that is really neat, post some pics when you use some, that is really ingenious! I don't see much wool down here in central tx but I love wool applique' and would like to try it.

Will look forward to seeing what you make of the wool.

BUT.........I also would like to see more of that beautiful quilt behind the wool!

Wonderful find , I love it when they have the big paper bag sales at the thrift shops , for if you roll each item real tight
you'd be surprised how much you can get in one big sack. :D

That one is 36" square and sat in the middle of my dining room table for Christmas

leatheflea 02-20-2011 06:01 AM

Move those cloths I want to see the quilt.

Beautiful! I love working with wool, the feel is so comforting. My Grandma made wool braided rugs and they are still in great shape after years of wear.

PunkiePie 02-20-2011 06:39 AM

Such a find luck you!

Wonderful find! My little sis just told me the other day to go to the thrift store and buy some wool sweaters and wash them on HOT to make some really nice boiled wool looking fabric for crafting. There is a tiny thrift store here but I think summer is the time to find sweaters. Right now people are actually wearing them (its a balmy 22 right now). I don't live anywhere near a fabric store or crafting store to buy any. Great stash you ended up with.

quiltinghere 02-20-2011 07:03 AM

Those are beautiful wool projects.

Now I remember WHY I had a collection of wool items purchased ... :( but I have since given them away to someone who does wool projects.

Oh well :) another reason to start shopping for new wool items. Thanks!
