I started a Carpenter's Star and am stuck as how to add at least 12" all around - for son's 2nd anniversary.

Beautiful quilt. What about a pieced border with stars?

texas granny 10-06-2010 07:35 PM

agrees with Bj

You could easily add borders. First a small 2" white, then 3" yellow, 4" orange, last 5" green. Would keep the focus on all the piecing you have done.

That sounds good bj - I should have done it like your avatar - adding another round to the star. /thanks

Ditto, use all of the colors you have in the quilt as border colors.

wolfkitty 10-06-2010 08:54 PM

How about a border of yellow and of orange, same as in your main part?

kristen0112 10-06-2010 08:56 PM

Beautiful quilts. On the first one what about doing a chevron/zig zag border?

On the bear paws I like your 2nd version better

I agree...and Bear Paw 1 would be my choice...let us know what you decide. I think they are both really lovely.

Very nice. Bear Paw 1 gets my vote.

For the Carpenters star, how about a "piano-key" border then a solid border? IMO if you were to add just solid borders to enlarge it, those stars on the corners would appear to be floating off into the atmosphere; you need something more pieced for balance.

Pretty though!

Add some borders using the colors in the quilt. Perhaps add more stars in the border-?

Annaquilts 10-07-2010 05:40 AM

For the bear paws I like the 1 st one. Normally I am big on blocks on point but it appears some of the individual bear paw gets lost/garbled when it is set on point. Maybe if you added the blue sashing in?

The Big yellow star is done. Ready for my trip to see my son - this is for DS DDIL's second anniversary made from material left over from their son's baby quilt. Guess I bought a little too much material at that time when I was so excited for my first grandchild.

earthwalker 10-28-2010 04:55 PM

It turned out beautifully...lucky kids!

nativetexan 10-28-2010 05:40 PM

maybe some flying geese going around in the borders. you don't have to fill the borders with them, maybe 3/4 of the way round .
