I just began my first Underground Railroad quilt.... inspired 100% by you all here - I followed along in the URR threads and requested the book from my library. I bought all the fabrics today to make my mother-in-law a wall hanging for a Christmas gift. :D
She lives in Charlestion, SC and she works downtown a short walk away from the outdoor market and the old slave mart!! So I'm going to make the blocks in the order they are in the book.... so here's block #1!! (all in 6 1/2" unfinished size) Jacob's Ladder |
Beauteous! Keep 'em coming!
|
Great job! Love it! Arent those little ones fun? :D
|
Real nice and I love the colors.
|
I used to go to that market! Lots of "finds" there, spices with innovative names, baskets handmade from the sweetgrasses growing in the marsh. Is the old Gullah woman who quilts still there? I haven't thought of her in years! And the fudge from the cafetorium :D |
Beautiful!! Love the colors. Great job.

And the fudge from the cafetorium :D But when I do get to go back, I'll look for her and let you know!! |
GORGEOUS
|
NIce keep them coming.
|
Yay!! They *are* fun to do! It's amazing how long these little 6" blocks take to make. LOL This 2nd one, the monkey wrench, took over an hour!
And here are the two together. I hope as the blocks continue they will actually LOOK like they belong together. Because these two don't look "related" in the least! hehehe Thank you for your comments! |
Oh no!! LOL I just flipped the page to cut out the fabrics for the next block, and I see it's the WAGON WHEEL!! eeek!
I've never sewn a curved edge OR appliqued anything in my life. And they say it's rated as "Easy" to do. LOL!! Surrrrrre. |
You are doing a great job!! Isn't this a fun quilt? I love it that you are doing the 6" blocks--the pieces were just too tiny for me. The wagon wheel is not hard at all--I actually hand appliqued mine and I don't like to applique at all--you will do just fine.
And don't worry about your blocks not looking like they belong together-that is just the nature of a sampler--it will look great when you are all finished. Keep 'em coming. :-) |
Hey Marcia!! Thanks so much... These pieces ARE tiny. I'm so glad I made that mini quilt wall-hanging last month; THOSE were itty bitty!
Well block #3 is done! :D Wagon Wheel... all done. Finished my way. hehe |
Brazen...its looking good! I swear..ya'll are gonna' get to me yet on this URR thing! I love all your blocks!
|
Thank you!! I love each tiny little individual block... but I'm still not loving them put together! LOL
Reading the big URR thread got ME into doing this! And for what better cause than a Christmas gift. :D |
Very Nice ! I just might have to look more into this quilt ! Darn You ! LOL... :D I have the book and computer software to work on the Dear Jane quilt, but now you go and throw this out there ! UGH ! Shame on you...LOL Love it so far, keep the pics coming

Looks Great!!! They will all come to gether once you get your sashing and borders on!!! Mine looked like puppy doo doo together too without the sashing, so have no worries, it will all work out. :D
|
Nice block!
|
Brazen, Your blocks look terrific. Can't wait to see the rest.
|
Great job on the wagon wheel. I am liking these together. You have repeated the green, blue and brown fabrics so far and that is tying them together. Keep at it--you will like it better as you go along.
|
You are doing a great job on the blocks. I got the book too, but haven't started on mine yet. Hopefully after Christmas I can find some time for doing something just for me
|
I have the book and I even got it off the shelf once I saw your pictures but other projects keep getting in the way. You are an inspiration. Nice blocks. Keep em coming.
|
Sooo nice and it is heart warming to see a young woman getting excited about an old skill. I agree with the other comments - you are an inspiration. I may not have the skills of half the board but oh how I love the fabrics, the hunt and time with friends. Keep it up and keep enjoying the craft...

If you don't mind me asking , what book are you using ? Thanks
Sharon |

Keep up the good work, it is looking great so far.
This might be something for me to think about for the new year. Muriel |
I think I may have deleted my 1st reply.
Just wanted to say keep up the good work its looking great. I might have to check into this one closer for the new year. Not sure if anyone in my area sales the fabrics and I hate to order but may have to give it a try. Muriel |
Looking good.
|
Wow! That is going to look great. You're making me think I might could do this quilt. Like you I have never sewn a curved edge OR appliqued before. You are helping me reduce my fear. :D
|
Wow! Your really coming along with your blocks. Each of them look GREAT. Keep up the good work :P
