Thanks so much everyone..I am yet again overwhelmed by your wonderful support...I was actually a bit embarrassed to put up my first quilt after I had seen everyone elses, but I figured I had to start somewhere..
Now girls I have a major confession to make..I only recently bought a sewing machine. My grandmother taught me how to knit and sew when I was growing up many years ago in the 60's..I have always knitted and embroidered have always been fascinated by quilts and their history. Anyway rambling a bit here..so when I went to the store a month ago the guy advised me to get a beginners machine- its a janome cxl 301 I think- its a pretty red and white one and I really took to it. it took me ages to work out where the thread went down to the needle but I figured it out. It could do with a bit more oomph though now! So I made the quilt on that. its not a long arm or anything and has a few basic stitches on it.
I can see now after putting up the picture, that i should have picked a better pale pink for the reds on the rail fence as it tends to wash into the creams but you dont learn until you do. I had to get fabrics that were available locally so had to make do a bit..I think the outside fabric saved it a bit though..
Anyway thanks so much..You have all really given me a lot more confidence to try something a bit more adventurous next time.. I am working on the next size up at the moment-am doing a throw for my son that i found in easy Quilts.So wills ee how that goes!!
And yes I really love that shoe on our flag!!
